We are proud to announce the completion of our four-year journey with the Greater Internet Freedom project! This initiative, supported by USAID, has been instrumental in advancing digital security and digital rights worldwide. Through partnerships across 39 countries and eight regions, we’ve built resilient communities, expanded capacity, and championed Internet freedom during some of the most challenging global events. The final report of this incredible project presents our achievements in localization, community building, capacity development, and advocacy.

Standing up against injustice requires the right tools. This guide, developed by Internews and Purpose+Motion, offers insights into apps and tools to support those documenting and addressing human rights violations, aiming to foster action toward a more just and peaceful world. How has the GIF project, in collaboration with Digital Security Lab Ukraine, helped strengthen #DigitalRights and #DigitalSecurity in Europe and Eurasia? Vita Volodovska from DSLU explains how their efforts have prevented harmful legislation, promoted Internet freedom, and empowered local organizations to create safer environments for activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.

GIF’s international partners are empowering civil society by providing the tools and support needed to hold companies accountable to human rights standards. This work has led to stronger policies and protections as local and multinational companies engage with our regional partners to implement rights-respecting practices. We spoke with Montserrat Legorreta from Global Network Initiative and Leandro Ucciferri from Ranking Digital Rights - World Benchmarking Alliance, who shared their thoughts on these collaborations.

With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, new laws are being adopted in #CentralAsia to protect the rights of Internet users and make the Internet safe and accessible to all. How is the GIF project supporting civil society organizations in sharing knowledge and exchanging information on various legislative initiatives? Through the GIF project, our international partners have teamed up with a diverse network of local and regional organizations, driving efforts to strengthen national laws that protect online privacy and freedom of expression, while also engaging with technical infrastructure and standards-setting bodies.
