How has the GIF project, in collaboration with Digital Security Lab Ukraine, helped strengthen #DigitalRights and #DigitalSecurity in Europe and Eurasia? Vita Volodovska from DSLU explains how their efforts have prevented harmful legislation, promoted Internet freedom, and empowered local organizations to create safer environments for activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.

GIF’s international partners are empowering civil society by providing the tools and support needed to hold companies accountable to human rights standards. This work has led to stronger policies and protections as local and multinational companies engage with our regional partners to implement rights-respecting practices. We spoke with Montserrat Legorreta from Global Network Initiative and Leandro Ucciferri from Ranking Digital Rights - World Benchmarking Alliance, who shared their thoughts on these collaborations.

With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, new laws are being adopted in #CentralAsia to protect the rights of Internet users and make the Internet safe and accessible to all. Through the GIF project, our international partners have teamed up with a diverse network of local and regional organizations, driving efforts to strengthen national laws that protect online privacy and freedom of expression, while also engaging with technical infrastructure and standards-setting bodies. We spoke with Zachery Lampell from International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) and Don Le from ARTICLE 19 to hear the insights on these collaborations.

During the last week of September, the #GreaterInternetFreedom team hosted the #OrgSecVillage, a four-day event in sunny Estoril, Portugal, as a satellite event of Team CommUNITY’s Global Gathering. The event brought together over 130 participants from more than 50 countries, representing more than 60 organizations operating at local, regional, and global levels! Check out some of the takeaways from this amazing event.

Derechos Digitales has been a valuable partner of the Greater Internet Freedom project in #LatinAmerica, helping strengthen alliances and networks across the region. Over the past four years, they’ve expanded their reach by building connections not only with local partners but also with international stakeholders. Mayra Osorio Pérez shares more on their impactful work and achievements.

Over the past four years, GIF has collaborated with a range of organizations across Africa. As the project comes to a close, we’re taking this opportunity to reflect on our joint efforts. Thobekile Matimbe from Paradigm Initiative, Asimwe John Ishabairu from Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA), and Wuraola Taiwo from Co-creation HUB (CcHUB) shared insights into the #DigitalSecurity and #DigitalRights challenges facing their regions, how the GIF project supported their efforts to address these issues, and the successes they achieved along the way.
