A glimpse into our latest Resilient Roots session, where fellows explored tree equity and the vital connection between urban green spaces and climate resilience! Guest speakers Di Holokahi from Solano Land Trust shared insights on youth outdoor access, while Supervisor Wanda Williams discussed local government's role in park equity and environmental justice. "Through discussions about real-world efforts in Solano County to expand access and address inequities, fellows were inspired to consider how they can advocate for healthier, greener environments. This session deepened their understanding of the intersection between environmental justice and urban planning, equipping them with the knowledge to drive equitable access to green spaces in their own communities." - Willa Gruver, Resilient Communities Program Manager at Sustainable Solano Your donation helps train the next generation of environmental leaders like our Resilient Roots fellows. Double your impact with our matching gift opportunity! 🌟 https://lnkd.in/gUFJvhYg

This past weekend, Greenbelt Alliance, in partnership with West End Arts District, Radium Presents, East Bay Regional Parks District, and CASA co-hosted a King Tide photography workshop and tour at Crab Cove in Alameda. Attendees learned tips and tricks for how to capture a good outdoor photograph and learned more about Alameda's current efforts to address sea level rise then we ventured out into the storm to take pics and have fun. Attendees were encouraged to participate in the California King Tides Project by photographing the shoreline during these extreme tides. The King Tides in Alameda were a somber preview of the potential impacts of future sea level rise. Alameda is working hard (and in partnership with so many great firms and organizations) address the impacts of sea level rise around the City and in close partnership with neighboring jurisdictions like the City of Oakland and the Port of Oakland. To learn more about these efforts, click here to check out content from the recent workshops and take the survey to make your voice heard on potential design interventions to make Alameda more resilient to flooding. https://lnkd.in/gDm9DHAy.

🌊 HUGE WIN: The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) unanimously approved the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP)! This marks a new era for planning and protecting the San Francisco Bay Area from rising sea levels. The RSAP will guide how our region adapts to climate change, emphasizing nature-based solutions and ensuring protection for our most vulnerable communities. With projections showing up to 6.5 feet of sea level rise by 2100, this coordinated approach couldn't come at a more critical time. Read our latest blog post to learn about the RSAP's impact and how Greenbelt Alliance has been supporting this vital initiative: https://lnkd.in/gPyZp9zz

It feels surreal to say this, but today the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission unanimously approved the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan. This approval truly ushers in a new era of adaptation planning in the Bay Area. As far as I’m aware, we are the first in the nation to adopt consistent guidelines for how a whole region does adaptation planning in a way that builds towards regional goals. This has been a huge push by my team and our consultant teams over the past 18 months and I believe we’ve created something truly remarkable. I am so excited to see how this all continues to grow and so, so proud of everyone who has gotten us to this point, especially Jaclyn Perrin-Martinez. Huge thanks also to the Commission for believing in us and supporting this plan! https://lnkd.in/g7arhy_X

What an incredible 3rd session of Resilient Roots! 🌱 Our community came together for an inspiring workshop led by urban planner Lakeisha Wright, learning how to transform our experiences into powerful stories that create change. Through interactive exercises and meaningful discussions, we explored ways to share our community's voice and turn data into compelling narratives that resonate with hearts and minds. Thanks to Rasta Mama Kitchen for nourishing us with amazing food while we crafted our stories! 🍽️
