With Thanksgiving around the corner in the U.S., I’m reminded of a study by Dr. Robert Emmons and Dr. Michael E. McCullough. In their research, participants kept a weekly gratitude journal, noting things they were thankful for. This group was compared to those who journaled about daily hassles or neutral events. The results? The gratitude group reported higher levels of well-being, including greater happiness, optimism, and life satisfaction, as well as fewer physical symptoms like headaches and sore throats. The moral of the story: Practicing gratitude can potentially boost both your happiness and health. So why not make it a year-round habit instead of just one week in November? 😊

Vulnerability is important for good leadership and building trust, but I think there is a huge misconception about vulnerability When some people think vulnerability, they think it means sharing their trauma or their deepest feelings. Sharing those things would absolutely be vulnerable, but that's not the type of vulnerability that will build your team culture. True vulnerability is: ➡️ Asking for help ➡️ Sharing concerns as they arise ➡️ Trying something new ➡️ Allowing others to get to know you ➡️ Sharing feedback even though it goes against the grain Often time we're hiding a feeling that could/should be shared when we overexplain things. But leading with vulnerability can help build that trust. Good examples of vulnerability: ✅ "I don't exactly know what direction the company is taking on this issue, and I'm nervous about it as well, but I'll support you all through this change the best way that I can" ✅ "I am really concerned about how this approach might impact our employees. I understand the desire to increase efficiency, but is there a solution that can also take development into consideration?" ✅ Taking the lead on a project, and letting everyone know you're trying to stretch out of your comfort zone and are open to feedback along the way. It's simple, but that vulnerability isn't always easy. Often, it's when I have that nagging anxious feeling in my chest that I know it's important to try the thing or share the thing by being vulnerable. 👂 Would love to hear your thoughts on vulnerability!
