About us

We are on a mission to create a circular economy in orbit. We want to protect the space environment for future generations. Just as the oceans have been polluted by single-use plastics, space is fast becoming the latest environment to be damaged by single-use solutions. We want to change this.

  • Day 11: 11th hour working to drive people to change... #SpaceSustainability is no easy feat and it's not one that can be done alone either. When they're not behind a desk or in a lab, Portia and Chris are keen to share their expertise, knowledge and perspectives with others inside and outside the space sector to inspire change and drive meaningful impact in today's world. They're also eager to hear from peers and new voices to boost collaboration and drive the growth of the emerging ISAM market. If you'd like to collaborate with an event or project, contact us at hello@growbotic.space #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceTech

  • Day 10: 10 Recommendations from the IOSM Priorities Paper 2023   📄 In 2023 on behalf of UKspace ISAM Working Group, Portia Bowman worked with industry experts to write a report highlighting what the UK should be focusing on to secure market share and be a global leader in space sustainability. You can read the recommendations and the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eqP3Pzzc   👀 Growbotics has also just finished working on a follow-on project for the UK Space Agency mapping the UK ISAM Capabilities and providing further recommendations. Follow us here on LinkedIn where we will soon be sharing the new publication.   #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceTech #SpaceSustainability

  • Day 9: 9 Lives (and More) of a Spacecraft 🚀 📷 Video is Pickle working hard (or hardly working) on some meeting slides. Send us photos of your pets working hard 😺 🐕 🐸 ♻️ As for the lives of a spacecraft in a circular economy, spacecraft parts aren’t just discarded when a satellite's mission ends—they’re given new purpose. Components like solar panels, antennas, and propulsion systems will be repaired, upgraded, or even repurposed to service other spacecraft. Recycling materials from decommissioned satellites reduces waste and supports the creation of new infrastructure directly in orbit.   Follow us here on LinkedIn to see more of the work we're doing in the ISAM market: https://lnkd.in/efVu52QG   #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceTech #SpaceSustainability

  • Day 8: 8 strategy and team days! As a fast growing start-up, we get the team together at least every quarter to make sure we're on track with our mission, and of course have a little bit of fun afterwards... 💃🍹 Whilst the team works mostly remotely, when we meet it is often at Harwell Campus in the Satellite Applications Catapult Co-working space. We're looking forward to growing our team next year with plenty more fun alongside all the hard work. If you'd like to catch up with the team in Harwell, send us an email to hello@growbotics.space #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceSustainability #SpaceTech

  • Day 7: 7 Values Driving Growbotics' Vision   ♻️ Sustainability - This isn’t an afterthought—it’s embedded into every project we undertake and the reason behind what we do.   🧑🏭 Innovation - To make the manufacture and operation of satellites sustainable, innovation is required at all levels.   ❗ Disruption - We believe the future of space demands bold ideas and groundbreaking technologies disrupting the norm of the satellite manufacturing industry.   🤝 Collaboration - The space sector thrives on partnerships, and we’re committed to working closely with organisations to achieve an in-orbit circular economy together.   🤸♀️Inclusive and Equitable - Growbotics values the diverse perspectives and experiences of its team, we endeavour to keep hiring with this outlook.   🧑🏫 Continuous Learning and Development - Focusing on pursuing new skills and knowledge and ensures we stay at the cutting edge of space tech and sustainability.   💯 Integrity and Accountability - Integrity underpins every decision we make. Our team operates transparently, holds each other accountable, and works together to uphold the trust of our partners and stakeholders.   Over the next two weeks, we want to share with you our journey, vision, and the exciting projects our team has been tirelessly working on since our inception in 2022. 🎄    If you're looking to collaborate with us on future research and development, contact us at hello@growbotics.space   #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceSustainability #SpaceTech

  • Day 6: 6 months of the LOOP Mission    The LOOP mission, led by Growbotics Space in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space, and 3Keel proposes to develop a comprehensive strategy for refurbishing satellites in Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and advancing circular economy principles in a commercially viable way. This project is funded by the European Space Agency - ESA Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) as part of the System Studies for the Circular Economy in Space Campaign.   📖 This study encompasses the design of satellites optimised for refurbishment, identification of valuable servicing processes, conceptualisation of new satellite architectures, and development of circular design principles for space. Key components of the proposed mission include the design of satellite subsystems that allow for seamless upgrades, such as robotic tools, standardised interfaces, and modular architectures.   By establishing a framework for circular design and refurbishment in space, this mission represents a crucial first step towards realising a circular in-orbit economy and unlocking the full commercial potential of GEO infrastructure.   🎄 Over the next two weeks, we want to share with you our journey, vision, and the exciting projects our team has been tirelessly working on since our inception in 2022. 🎄   📞 If you're looking to collaborate with us on future research and development, contact us at hello@growbotics.space    #12DaysofGrowbotics #SpaceSustainability #SpaceTech

  • Day 5: 5 years time ⏰ By 2030, we envision a global space industry taking significant strides toward an in-orbit circular economy—an ecosystem where spacecraft are built to last, serviced in orbit, and upgraded with minimal waste. This diagram illustrates how the ISAM (In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing) market can recycle, upgrade, and maintain spacecraft without the need for constant new launches. At Growbotics, we’re contributing to this future by: ✍️ Supporting the design of serviceable satellites from the outset. 🛠️ Developing satellite repair kits that enable parts to be replaced, extending satellite lifetime and reducing debris. ⚡ Providing thought Leadership to advance sustainable principles across the industry Together with the global space community, we aim to build a more sustainable, efficient, and innovative orbital ecosystem.
