About us

Guatemala Service Projects Inc. is a registered nonprofit corporation in the state of Wisconsin. The purpose for our organization is to raise funds and awareness for service work opportunities in Guatemala. Projects undertaken will fall under one of two topic areas -- education or healthcare. Some examples of projects completed in the past are vented Onil stove installations, water filtration, school supply drives, libraries and technology deployment. • It is such an honor to report that we currently have THREE construction projects going on at the same time... the first time in our history that this has happened. We are being kept very busy, but our productive progress brings us great joy. We appreciate your prayers for safety or positive thoughts for the workers on all three construction sites: 1) The health clinic in Panimaché Quinto Alto 2) The water storage tank in Río Camanibal 3) The preschool salon in Chicua Primero We are working toward the future of Chichicastenango! In early 2025 we will begin a kitchen remodel and another water project for school sanitation -- in two new communities! Our work is never-ending, thanks to our hard work and the support of so many donors that place their trust in our ability to manage funds and work ethically. All of these projects involve some level of support from the communities themselves, as well, so we are thankful for the partnership and understanding we have with authorities from each community. Together we can! All this said, dear donors, if you have end-of-year charitable giving in mind, please know that we not only have the need but also the plans in place to leave a long-lasting impact. We can promise effective use of your funds and look forward to sharing our progress with you in the coming months and years. With a warm heart and grateful joy, Jennifer Demar Guatemala Service Projects www.guatsp.org

  • We would LOVE if you or your company sponsored the lifesaving gift of a low-emission stove or water filter for a family in Guatemala. Contributing to a better health (and education) are the ways to build and sustain a population and society. That is best done through kindness and sharing what we have with those that don't have it. Please consider a small (or large) donation, and be a part of the success of Guatemala Service Projects. Next month, a small team of dedicated people are traveling to Chichicastenango Guatemala with the opportunity to provide stoves and water filters for families that don't have them. This link is one method of making a contribution, but the more complete pages of our website describe these two items to a greater extent, and donations can be made there as well. • We are very excited to be part of the collaboration with the LACIS (Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies) program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the students and staff at Oconomowoc High School in Oconomowoc, WI. • Someone has volunteered to donate $5000 once the fundraiser reaches $5000 on its own. Please help us get there! Your impact can be doubled!

Today marks 24 years of dedication at Digicorp. Looking forward to many more! In honor of this milestone, I will match the next 10 donations of $24 each to support a scholarship fund close to my heart. This fund, established in memory of my late wife in November 2022, currently sponsors 7 Guatemalan students for the 2024 academic year. Our goal is to support even more students in 2025. If you wish to contribute, I would be truly grateful. No obligation, but if you'd like to donate, here are the links: https://lnkd.in/giGcp3RS https://lnkd.in/gNrpF5X9 Thank you for your consideration.

  • KNOW HOW TO SAVE A LIFE! We created this 24 x 36 poster to take with us to Guatemala next week to aid in CPR training. Medical staff, nursing students, COCODES and emergency responders will be among those receiving training. At the end of our week, Annie (the CPR doll) will be donated along with the poster and consumable training supplies to CAP Chupol, in the municipality of Chichicastenango. Many will then receive the ongoing training even after we have left. #cpr #rcp #compressions #mouthtomouth #medicalspanish

  • With an incredible powerhouse of charitable giving in Guatemala like the Luis von Ahn Foundation, it was important for us to read and reflect on their goals and initiatives. We are an NGO that is trying to make a difference (via health and education) and we agree with their statements. But, perhaps there is more to consider: https://lnkd.in/ge8FkN6M

Education is the key to empowerment, yet indigenous women in Guatemala face significant barriers. The average years of schooling for women in Guatemala is only 5.3, and that numbers lowers to just 3 years for Indigenous women. While strides have been made in enrollment parity, quality education remains a challenge, especially in secondary education for indigenous women. Let's work together to break down barriers and ensure every woman has access to the education she deserves. We believe that education is key to unlocking the potential of Guatemala. We partner with organizations in order to break down barriers, ensure equal access to education, and empower every woman to reach her full potential. • A high-efficiency stove can alleviate many undesirable issues! SAFE EXHAUST VENTING – A stove has a chimney to direct smoke out of the house and provides an immediate respiratory improvement. COST & TIME SAVINGS FOR THE FAMILY – On average, stoves use 70% less wood to accomplish the same tasks as an open fire, meaning that a family saves both time and money in the acquisition and transportation of firewood. REDUCED INJURY RISK – The cook surface is elevated and outside the reach of young children. REDUCED HOME FIRE RISK – The fire is contained in the firebox so sparks do not shoot out. LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT – Lower wood consumption means better preservation of the environment. * * * Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gMih6zbF
