📈 Planet Forward Trending Story of the Month! 📈 Maria Jose Vargas, a Planet Forward Correspondent from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, recently wrote about her dad, Ignacio Vargas Sánchez, a coffee farmer in Costa Rica. Vargas writes: "Coffee culture is a foundational part of our family tradition and who I am." Despite the urbanization of Costa Rica that's occurred in recent decades, her family is keeping that culture alive. Though cement structures have now replaced many coffee plantations, her dad still farms on the same land their family has been on for three generations. It's just now surrounded by supermarkets, factories, and commercial offices. Ignacio Vargas Sánchez shares what it's like being an unintentional urban farmer, and how his farm and his farming practices are having a positive impact on the environment — whether he realizes it or not. So great to see an appreciation for multimedia in this year's #SEJAwards! Linking the piece again here: (...though I've admittedly posted it a half dozen times). https://lnkd.in/e3hR-EUY
