H2MOF’s co-founder Prof. Sir Fraser Stoddart has passed away. We are deeply saddened to share that our co-founder, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Sir Fraser Stoddart passed away on December 30, 2024. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, students and many close colleagues around the world. Prof. Stoddart often said: "choose a big problem to tackle". In his memory and honor, we will continue to walk down the path of innovation, discovery and scientific advancement he has laid out for us. Thank you, Professor.

Hydrogen has the potential to play a crucial role in the decarbonization of waterborne transport. As a fuel hydrogen offers multiple technological pathways applicable across all maritime segments, enabling significant progress toward the deep decarbonization of the sector. The main factor holding back the wider adoption of hydrogen as an enabler of the decarbonization of the maritime industry are the high costs attached to existing hydrogen storage technologies. Standard high-pressure tanks or cryogenic liquid come with significant inefficiencies and safety concerns. That’s why at H2MOF we are working on a transformational hydrogen storage technology that enables substantially lower costs of storage. To reach net zero in the mobility sector we will need both renewable electricity and #hydrogen. While batteries are performing great in the segment of passenger cars, hydrogen is the ideal solution for heavy-duty vehicles. What is holding back the wider adoption of hydrogen buses or trucks are high costs and safety concerns. Both issues can be mitigated with safer and more efficient hydrogen fuel tank technologies. While existing technologies are mainly relying on either high pressure or cryogenic liquid, at H2MOF we are taking a completely different approach. Based on decades of research from our founder Nobel laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart and the father of reticular chemistry, Professor Omar Yaghi, we design reticular materials with atomic precision to store hydrogen in solid state, enabling hydrogen storage at low pressure and ambient temperatures. We believe that this will unlock the huge potential of hydrogen for heavy-duty vehicles and beyond. Find out more about our technology here: https://lnkd.in/g5Z6gE6j

The #COP29 Hydrogen Declaration is a pledge to advance the production of renewable, clean, and low-carbon #hydrogen while transitioning away from hydrogen derived from unabated fossil fuels. The Declaration seeks to scale up green hydrogen production, which currently stands at one million tonnes per year, and significantly reduce the 96 million tonnes of hydrogen generated from fossil fuel sources. Once the hydrogen is produced, we need to think about how to bring it to where it's needed. The existing hydrogen storage and transportation are struggling with severe inefficiencies holding back the wider adoption of the hydrogen economy. That’s why at #H2MOF we don’t build on existing technologies, but something truly transformational. Our storage technology is not based on cryogenic liquid or high pressure, but it’s solid-state, low pressure and ambient temperatures. Find out how we achieve that leveraging nano-engineered reticular materials: https://lnkd.in/g5Z6gE6j
