🏠 Racial disparities in homeownership are real—and they’re personal. In Kansas City, Black homeownership rates are 30% lower than White homeownership rates, the result of decades of discriminatory housing policies. These aren’t just statistics—they represent families, futures, and opportunities that were denied. Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City hosted a Race & Housing workshop yesterday at the office on Linwood to wrap up Black History Month. It was a great turnout for such a heavy topic. Did you know ... In Kansas City, the homeownership rate for Black residents is 30% lower than that of white residents, a disparity rooted in decades of discriminatory policies. These statistics represent real families and have lasting implications for futures and opportunities. Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to live, but structures of intentional and systemic racial discrimination have created barriers to homeownership for many Black families. For example, Black Kansas Citians face a 20.69% mortgage loan denial rate — compared to 9.97% for White Kansas Citians. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.
