We build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

About us

Habitat for Humanity Portland Region builds affordable and sustainable homes, and empowers people through successful homeownership. Founded in 1981, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region serves Multnomah, east Washington, and northern Clackamas counties. We believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to call home – especially those historically left out of homeownership. We are the largest developer of affordable homes for sale in the Portland region, working with our community to build and repair more than 100 homes each year, from Gresham to Hillsboro. Sale prices are based on a lasting affordable model which ensures that the home is affordable not only to the first buyer but future generations as well. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. At Habitat for Humanity, our vision is a world where everyone — every person, every family, every child — has a decent and affordable place to call home.

  • Oregon’s first State of the State’s Housing Report underscores the need for more affordable housing. Oregon ranks first in the nation for the most families with children who are living without shelter. Read the full report - https://lnkd.in/gyVkwe4e

We have released the first State of the State Housing Report for Oregon, providing an in-depth analysis of housing availability and affordability across the state. Drawing from comprehensive data on housing markets, economic trends, and demographic shifts, the report highlights the challenges Oregon residents face in affording high-quality housing. 🏘 📈 “Data enables us to identify where our efforts are making an impact and where improvements are needed to make life better in ways that all people can feel and that we can measure,” said OHCS Executive Director Andrea Bell. We aim to release a State of the State’s Housing Report every two years, with additional localized analyses in the years between each release. • “One thing that gives me hope is, I’ve been doing this work for 30 years,” our President & CEO Steve Messinetti said. “And really for the first time we’re seeing housing on people’s minds, making that connection between having a decent home and kids doing better in school… making that connection between health.” He was recently interviewed on the local program, Smart Money, along with All Classical Radio President & CEO Suzanne Nance. They discussed the rewards and benefits of charitable giving, along with wide-ranging ways to support causes you care about. • When we build safe and affordable homes, we also consider habitat for wildlife. Our recently completed community, Foster Commons, has a tree preservation area as well as a natural play area! We left a snag in the tree preservation area to provide shelter for birds. And we added native plants to both green spaces, which supports local wildlife and protects biodiversity 💚 Want to support our work? Give $10 or more TODAY through Willamette Week's Give!Guide and you’ll be entered to win a $500 shopping spree at Backyard Bird Shop 🐦 https://lnkd.in/gimjKrpu
