HADASSAH STATEMENT After 15 months of war, Hadassah welcomes today's announcement about a deal between Israel and Hamas that paves the way for the release of the hostages in order to establish a ceasefire. We pray that this agreement ultimately leads to the safe release of all the hostages Hamas has tortured and abused in captivity for over a year. Hamas started this war and has continually rejected and violated peace proposals and deals. Hadassah will continue to advocate for Israel's unequivocal right and responsibility to defend itself and its citizens. Our hearts remain with the hostages and their families. We are grateful to leaders in the US and around the world who have worked to bring about this framework. We are cautiously optimistic. The Hadassah Medical Organization’s two Jerusalem hospitals will continue to be committed to the physical and emotional healing process, including through its newly opened Gandel Rehabilitation Center.

On October 7, 2023, nurse Michal Elon was helping a seriously injured IDF soldier when she took bullets to the stomach, chest and hand from a Hamas terrorist disguised as an IDF soldier. Elon traveled to California as 2024 came to a close, to share how Hadassah saved her life as part of the Rebuilding Hope, Rebuilding Lives: A Life Changing Hadassah Story 2024 tour, featuring her twin sister, a midwife at the Hadassah Medical Organization, and Hadassah National President Carol Ann Schwartz.

Hamza Al-Ziyadnah, 23, and Yousef Al-Ziyadnah, 53. May their memories be a blessing. We mourn with the family. “Hamza and Yosef [Al-Ziyadnah] were abducted alive on October 7 and were killed while in Hamas captivity,” according to the IDF/Shin Bet. They were abducted on October 7 along with Hamza’s two siblings, Bilal and Aysha, who were released during a 2024 ceasefire deal. #BringThemHomeNow
