While we are grateful that Haiti has been spared from major hurricanes this season, the ongoing flooding remains a serious challenge. Our friend Lenord sent us this video from Les Cayes last week. Many are facing hardships and need support. Let's keep Haiti in our hearts and lend a hand however we can.

Get tickets to LitFest 2024 as Benjamin Barson, a musician and activist, explores the importance of jazz music as a form of artistic expression linked to the struggles of Black communities worldwide. In his book "Brassroots Democracy: Maroon Ecologies and the Jazz Commons," he traces the impact of Haitian culture in New Orleans, from the Haitian Revolution to the jazz age, emphasizing their contributions to liberation movements. This program will bring Ben’s research to life, as he takes the stage with a group of Pittsburgh and New York based musicians to reimagine the music discussed in the book and its resonance in our current moment. The Bike4Haiti started on Saturday, and our cyclists are putting some miles behind them! Our first day (64 miles to Connellsville) soaked our group with a hard rain in the afternoon. Thankfully, everyone arrived safely, if a bit soggy. Our 3-day riders finished yesterday, going through many bridges and tunnels, ending in Cumberland, MD. Today our last group of riders started on the C&O Towpath towards Washington D.C. this morning. We have raised just under $20,000 of our $25,000. There is still time to donate, help us reach our goal! https://buff.ly/3X0PD1A
