Yesterday marked Halcyon’s final showcase of 2024, spotlighting our Africa Climate Fellowship in Nairobi, Kenya. After a week of in-person programming on investment readiness, climate financing, impact and leadership, and go-to-market and scaling strategies for Africa climate ventures, our founders took the stage for this fantastic culminating event, demonstrating the growth they’ve achieved during their time with Halcyon. The showcase also featured an insightful fireside chat with James Mwangi of Africa Climate Ventures. Halcyon's Africa Climate Fellowship, part of the Coalition for Climate Entrepreneurship partnership, is run with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS), SNDBX | The Village Experts, the Chandaria Business Innovation & Incubation Center at Kenyatta University, and the Department of State's Office of Global Partnerships. Our first EquityTech Showcase truly encompassed the heart of this vertical. Our fellows took the stage to share their impactful ventures with incredible market potential—from innovative mobile learning tools for frontline workers and vulnerable populations, to financial solutions that help consumers alleviate their debt at steep discounts, to dynamic assistive technologies like an emergency alert system for the deaf and hard of hearing. Ahead of the fellow pitches, Tom Berry, Sr. Manager for Education Equity at Amazon Web Services (AWS), provided insightful welcome remarks, followed by a powerful fireside chat with Awah Teh, Chief Data Architect and Head of Data Products and Privacy Engineering at Capital One, Halcyon alum Fonta Gilliam, Founder & CEO of Wellthi, and Halcyon’s Kimberly Johnson Roberts. We’re grateful to everyone who attended this evening’s event, whether you were a seasoned investor or interested in learning more about the EquityTech space, our founders felt the community that formed around them.
