Nominations for the University of Exeter Employment Awards 2025 are now open! The awards recognise students who successfully balance part-time work alongside their studies, Graduate Business Partners who are making a positive impact in their workplace and employers who support Exeter students and graduates through meaningful paid employment. Employers can be nominated for an award too. This is a great way to raise awareness of a company’s brand throughout the local business community and to recognise their contribution towards staff development. Nominations close at midnight on 23rd March. All nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony taking place on Friday 23rd May in the Forum, Streatham Campus, where the results will be revealed. We are so grateful to our sponsors PUSHED®, Tasha Pullen, CRM Champion, Optimising IT | B Corp™, voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, CT Partners Group and Hilton Ames Ltd for supporting us in making the 2025 awards a great success! More information about the awards, including how to nominate, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eW7qzS59

Are you ready to do the unthinkable? Put away your high heels ( personally definitely not , they attached to me just about permanently and love them 😂) , Or, hang up your work boots, and or Kick off your trainers—I like to call them takkies. If you South African you do too. Yes its that time , It’s time to embrace the idea of retirement. Some days, it’s hard to imagine this moment ever coming. We worry about whether we've saved enough for a comfortable retirement and often let financial concerns overshadow this exciting new chapter. However, the truth is that retirement planning isn't just about pounds in your account; it's about crafting the life you desire in your later years. Think of retirement as an opportunity to explore, create, and live life on your own terms. It’s not just about stopping work; it’s about opening doors to new experiences, passions, and adventures. The more you save, the more choices you have, which translates to greater peace of mind. So, as you think about your future, ask yourself: Are you ready to make the leap? It’s never too late to start planning for a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement. After all, the best years of your life are yet to come. Let's prepare for the unthinkable and embrace this incredible journey ahead! #Plan #PlanAgain #PlanYetAgain

  • Some days you can’t imagine ever retiring. Other days, you wish you were hanging up your boots tomorrow. But when the day comes, you want to start retirement with a sense of anticipation of all that lies ahead, safe in the knowledge that you’ve put enough money by for a comfortable retirement. Managing your current assets tax-efficiently now will help you achieve the lifestyle you want in retirement. These days, retirement planning is about making sure you’ve got plenty of options to live later-life the way you want to – not the way your income means you have to. But the more you’ve saved, the more choices – and peace of mind – you’ll have in later life. If retirement is on your mind, make a time to talk your plans through with a financial adviser to discuss how you can give your pension pot that final boost before lift-off. www.hamiltonpullenfp.co.uk #LivingTheLife #Choices #ItStartsToday

What do you think is comfortable to be able to retire on ? This a question that I often get asked. Compared to when I first started as a financial planner in 2011, we now have more choices, more information and more personal accountability for what we want our retirement income to look like. But the real question is ... will the future we look forward to be one we can afford? The Retirement Living Standards, launched by the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA), which ideally helps provide a budgeting benchmark for three different standards of living which if you planning your retirement makes for an easy and practical point to start from for a single person . Minimum- you need £14,400 a year Moderate -you would need £31,300 a year What we all want Comfortable- £43,100 a year For couples, the price tag of these three lifestyles is £22,400, £43,100 and £59,000 per annum. You may be asking what dfferentiates each living standard from another ? Well, the minimum living standard covers most people’s basic needs e.g. you could holiday in the UK, eat out about once a month and spend around £600 on clothes and footwear a year. But don’t expect to run a car. The moderate lifestyle provides, in addition to the minimum lifestyle, more financial security and increased flexibility e.g you could take a two-week holiday in Europe and eat out a few times a month. And you could afford to run a small car. At the comfortable level, you could enjoy some luxuries like regular beauty treatments, theatre trips and at least two weeks in Europe a year. Whether you’ve got 20 years before you retire or just a few, it’s important to have an idea of just how much money you’ll need for a comfortable lifestyle once you stop earning a regular salary. Whatever stage you’re at on your saving journey, having a specific income in mind can help you focus on the end goal – and look forward to it! This is my gran, Joy. Joy lived a happy yet modest life until the age of 91. #LifestylePlanning #PlanBetter #GetAdvice

  • Christmas is fast approaching.. what does it mean for you and your family?

Last night mom, dad and I went to the Exeter Christmas market. Its a new family tradition since arriving in the UK. Coming from South Africa where the build up to Christmas is family braai’s , days spent at the dam or around the swimming pool. I find Christmas here in the UK to have a true sense of Christmas. Yes its much colder but yet so much warmer around the traditional festive spirit. Which made me think, it's a wonderful time to reflect on what truly matters: our families and loved ones. As a business owner in financial planning, I want to remind everyone of the importance of securing their future while enjoying the present. The holidays can be a busy and sometimes stressful time, but they also offer the perfect opportunity to think about: 1. Protection for Your Loved Ones - Consider life insurance or savings plans that ensure your family is taken care of, no matter what. 2. Setting Financial Goals- Take a moment to discuss your family's goals for the upcoming year—be it saving for a big purchase, education, or a special family trip. 3. Creating a Budget for the Holidays- Planning your holiday spending can help you enjoy the festivities without the stress of debt in the New Year. 4.Looking Ahead- As we close out the year, it’s also the perfect time to assess your financial strategy. Are there adjustments needed to stay on track for your long-term goals? Let’s prioritize our loved ones by planning for their future and ensuring we can provide for them throughout all seasons of life. If you’re looking to create a solid financial plan as we head into the New Year, let’s connect! I’m here to help you navigate your path to financial security. #fanilytradition #familyfirst #Financialplanning
