FOCUS ON MOVABLE DESIGN_H&H has been elevating movable bridge design since 1887. Our firm has designed historically significant structures, like the Steel Bridge over the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. The through-truss double-deck vertical lift bridge was completed in 1912. Waddell & Harrington, the direct predecessor firm to H&H, designed the bridge. More than 113 years later, the Steel Bridge still accommodates navigational vessels and carries vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Today, H&H continues to leverage the spirit of innovation our founders pioneered. The Sarah Mildred Long Vertical Lift Bridge showcases our ability to provide sophisticated design solutions when clients face complex challenges. Completed in 2018, the bridge was the first major independent four-tower vertical lift bridge In the US. It features a cutting-edge dual roadway and railway lift span. This modern and efficient bridge connects Portsmouth, NH, with Kittery, ME, and supports marine traffic for the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard.
