Ah, the Super Bowl—a day of epic plays, questionable commercials, and snacks that defy portion control. But while we’re busy yelling at the TV, there’s another high-stakes game happening behind the scenes: the energy showdown. This year, Caesars Superdome is expected to use 12 megawatts of electricity on game day—enough to power 7,000 New Orleans homes for the same three hours. And while stadiums are energy guzzlers, here’s a fun twist: during past Super Bowls, nationwide residential electricity use actually dropped by 5%. Turns out, when millions of people cram into bars and living rooms, they consolidate energy use. (Yet another reason to RSVP “yes” to that watch party.) The real underdog here? HVAC systems. Heating and cooling make up a whopping 40% of a stadium’s energy use, and with this year’s game landing on a warmer-than-usual February day, those systems will be working overtime. But the NFL has been stepping up its efficiency game—think smarter stadiums, renewable energy, and even turning game-day glass waste into materials for coastal restoration. So, next time you’re yelling at a ref, remember: behind the touchdowns and halftime antics, there’s an entire energy team making sure the Super Bowl stays comfortable and (slowly but surely) more sustainable. Energy jargon can feel like a secret language—one filled with acronyms, tech terms, and phrases that sound more complicated than they need to be. But understanding how our homes use energy shouldn’t require a PhD. That’s why we put together a guide to demystify the most common energy terms. Whether you’re a homeowner, a climate nerd, or just someone trying to make sense of your utility bill, this one’s for you <3 Check out the full breakdown here: https://lnkd.in/gQJ4Y8Q3 Because energy should be efficient, not confusing. 🔋⚡

We’ve spent years obsessing over heating, cooling, and hot water. It’s not always the stuff of dinner party conversations, but when someone like Jane Melia, Ph.D., our co-founder and CEO, gets a chance to chat with a fellow energy nerd like Somil Aggarwal, we can’t help but get excited. That’s exactly what happened on the latest episode of CleanTechies. To say it was a meeting of the minds would be putting it lightly. The conversation went beyond tech talk (even though we’re always here for a good coefficient of performance discussion). It explored the bigger picture—how outdated grid systems, lack of incentives, and policy gaps create barriers to widespread adoption of more efficient energy solutions. The focus remained on the importance of collaboration and innovation to solve the energy puzzle. Want to hear Jane’s conversation for yourself? Check out the full episode of CleanTechies and join us in imagining a cleaner, cozier future. Read more and listen here.

🔥 Wildfire season is here, but the smoke doesn’t have to stay inside. As wildfires rage across California, the impact isn’t just outdoors—it’s sneaking into our homes. Between wildfire smoke, gas stove pollutants, and drafty windows, indoor air quality has become a hidden health concern. But there’s good news: small changes can make a BIG difference in creating a healthier, fresher home. Here’s how to breathe easier: 💨 Upgrade to induction cooking: Gas stoves release harmful pollutants like nitrogen dioxide. Switching to induction can cut indoor nitrogen dioxide by over 50%. Portable induction burners are a budget-friendly option to get started. 💨 Seal drafts: Weatherstripping windows and doors blocks pollutants while reducing energy waste. Affordable, renter-friendly solutions like removable weatherstrips and draft stoppers work wonders. 💨 Use whole-home air filters: Attach a MERV-13 filter to your HVAC system for cleaner air throughout your home. Pro tip: set your fan to “on” to keep the air circulating. 💨 Consider an electric heat pump: Heat pumps eliminate combustion pollutants from gas HVAC systems, plus they heat, cool, and dehumidify efficiently. Bonus: major rebates are available to make the switch even easier. Indoor air quality matters more than ever. Let’s create healthier, safer spaces for ourselves and our families—one small change at a time. Check out more on our newest blog post linked below! 💡 How are you improving your indoor air quality this wildfire season? Wow, the world is crazy right now! We want to acknowledge that our eyes are on Southern California as wind-whipped fires continue to burn uncontrolled. Too many of our friends and family have lost their homes, or even their entire town. It is simply a mess. When everything seems to be on fire, we find it helps to focus on the things that you can do in your own situation to make things a little better. Surprisingly, one of those things is making sure your air filters and heat pumps are clean - no matter where you are, but especially in places ravaged by ash raining from the sky. Every heat pump, heat pump water heater, and air filter is different, so check your manufacturer’s recommendations - and of course, this is all just guidance for you on a home DIY level. But in general, here are a few things to consider: https://lnkd.in/gzwFbh2d
For an always-on fire season, your heat pumps (and filters) always need a clean

Thanks WattCarbon !
Heat pumps! Everyone loves them. But there are persistent bug bears: –challenge to run on clean energy during the night –can add extra load to the grid –expensive I investigate how Harvest and WattCarbon are solving these issues with a smart thermal storage system and an investment solution that enables corporates to jumpstart decarbonization projects, respectively, in my latest article: https://lnkd.in/eS_MUWDz Thank you Jane Melia, Ph.D. for your time, and Sarah Emery for editing. #climatewriter #heatpumps #climatesolutions #climateprogress
