Some of these tips include swapping out some “traditional” holiday food items if they’re less popular with your ‘ohana and donating unused shelf-stable ingredients. April Hail, a Hawai‘i mom and former high school teacher, founded Keiki Kaukau in 2019. “KEY Project, this place, is really about community,” says KEY Project Community Development Coordinator Joe Wat. “And food, at its core, sharing food and spending time together – that’s how you build community. I think that’s why KEY Project has been a partner of Hawai‘i Foodbank for decades.” Read the full Hunger Blog post: https://lnkd.in/gSEcpgKA
In 29% of households with children in Hawai‘i, one or more children face food insecurity. On this #WorldChildrensDay, we recognize how important it is for our keiki to be well-nourished to safeguard their healthy development. Hawai‘i Foodbank and our network of agency partners are working to provide for programs like the Food 4 Keiki School Pantry and Kaukau 4 Keiki summer meals program to ensure our keiki have enough nutritious food. It's always a pleasure to meet other Feeding America partners, and we love being able to gain perspective on how other organizations are working to fight hunger in their area. Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Mahalo for hosting us!
We are inspired every single time we can connect with and learn from fellow Feeding America partners. Recently, we had the honor to host folks with Hawai‘i Foodbank, who are tasked with operating two warehouses on O’ahu and Kaua’i to fight hunger in Hawai’i. Our Sara Collins put it best: “No matter the location, our goal is the same! Fighting the good fight of ending food insecurity! Had the pleasure of spending the day with Hawaii Food Bank showing them just what we do and how we do it over at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana...today was a great day!” Thanks for coming all the way to Indiana!
