Our #HawthorneLaneWoman of the month is CEO of Best Buy Co. Inc, Corie Barry. Corie has been a loyal ambassador, strategic titan and Best Buy advocate for around 25 years, starting as a Financial Analyst back in 1999. She graduated from College of Saint Benedict with a focus in accounting and business management, taking her first steps working at Deloitte as a Senior Auditor. Her ability to work across numbers and data strategically then led her to Best Buy. Corie navigated the first 20 years at Best Buy, moving throughout various positions across largely operations and finance, learning the company inside and out, all while developing strategic improvement plans along the way. She entered her role as CEO right before the pandemic in 2019. She has pushed through unforeseen challenges and has made massive strides for growth and increased profit. Through her career, Corie has shown that being a Mom and CEO is by no means easy or perfect, but finding your own path and balance comes from trial and error. "It's never about the quantity of hours on any given side of the fence. It's more about genuinely feeling like I'm a good, positive, contributing member of my family. And like I'm a good, positive, contributing member at work. When those two things are both happening then I feel like this {balance} works for me. Some days that's a 12- or 14-hour work day, and some days I need to run out to a band concert at the elementary school.". Corie is an active board member for Domino's Pizza, Business Roundtable and an Executive Committee Member for The Business Council U.S. She has contributed to The Barry Family/Best Buy Scholars program at her alma mater, the College of Saint Benedict and continues to mentor, uplift and motivate those around her.
