  • We are proud to announce the successful completion of Charlotte County's first smart knee procedure in healthcare. “I came for the best,” said Rebecca Rebecca Sedar. “That’s why I chose Fawcett Hospital and Dr. Reiss.” Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jason Reiss has introduced a new type of knee replacement that features Bluetooth technology. This innovative device records data daily and transmits it to a cloud-based platform. With this technology, physicians can monitor various aspects, such as a patient’s range of motion and gait, helping to identify any abnormal movements that may require additional follow-up care. We are proud to have hospitals ranked in the top five percent in the nation for overall orthopedic services and joint replacement, as well as hospitals recognized as Five-Star Recipients for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by Healthgrades. • On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we are proud to spotlight Maria Perez, the director of laboratory services at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. Originally from Puerto Rico, Maria's passion for science began in third grade, leading her from pre-med studies to a dedicated career in laboratory medicine. "We play a critical role behind the scenes. Our results help doctors diagnose diseases, including leukemia and cancer. That is what makes this work so rewarding," said Maria. Maria is also committed to inspiring the next generation. She actively visits schools to educate students about laboratory professionals' essential role in healthcare. When asked for advice to young women in science, Maria said, "You’re not just doing a job—you’re saving lives. Find your passion and pursue it." We’re proud to honor the incredible contributions of women in healthcare and beyond, recognizing their dedication, resilience and leadership.
