⚽ 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 ⚽ We hear far too often that the old leather balls used in the 60s caused more damage than today's footballs due to their weight. In reality, these footballs both weigh between 14-16 oz. In fact, today's footballs travel faster resulting in an increased impact force, thus causing more damage. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, better known as CTE, is a progressive, degenerative brain disease caused by repetitive head impacts, including headers. Learn more ➡️ https://loom.ly/Un6j3Fc

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗵! ⚽⭐ Meet Deborah Johnson, adviser to Head Safe Football. Deborah is an award winning journalist, was editor of the world’s biggest neuro-rehab magazine, s now a media consultant and is a proud mum and a Sunderland fan. "As a specialist healthcare writer, the research I report on which irrefutably links CTE with the frequency and strength of head impacts is scary, especially as the mum of a 13-year-old who plays as a centre back for his team. I want to do all I can to make positive change through awareness and education." says Deborah on why she decided to work with Head Safe Football. Deborah's favourite footballing memory is her son’s first man of the match award, just edging out Sunderland’s recent play off final win and her first match back in 1991 which began her SAFC journey.

Today marks 63 years since Bill and Judith Gates married, the very same year Bill signed for Middlesbrough as Britain's first £50 a week footballer! Devastatingly, the pair were robbed of celebrating many of their anniversaries as in 2010, Bill's memory began to worsen due to CTE which was an outcome of his role as a defender for Middlesbrough for over 13 years. Judith made a promise to Bill to do everything she could to prevent this from happening to other families. That is why, Head Safe Football is Bill's legacy. We will continue to fight to fulfil Judith's promise to Bill. 🖤
