Thank you so much to Soho house Company for generously donating an incredible prize for our auction at HMM ball the third year in a row. Each year, it raises over £1,000, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.

I can’t thank the RAF news for their support for Healing Military Minds. The latest edition of RAF News has featured a piece on Healing Military Minds, the fundraising organization I founded, which should be a great thing. However, some of the facts aren’t true. AK47 (along with John Coghlan and Bruce Dickinson) were wearing HMM T-shirts at the Herc Hangar Bash, they assumed the entire event was in aid of HMM and printed it as such.( easy mistake to make) That’s not true, and now we’re concerned you might see the article and wonder why we’ve made that claim. We’re getting a correction published in the next issue, but unfortunately, the damage is done. So, I’m asking—please don’t think any less of this great organization. 🙏

Professor Dominic Murphy, Head of Research at Combat Stress, has written an editorial reflecting on his paper, ‘Living alongside military PTSD: A qualitative study of female partners’ experiences with UK Veterans’, which was the Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health’s most read and downloaded article in 2017. Dominic’s original article formed part of a series of research projects that explored the needs of partners of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The findings of the study informed our specialist support programme for the partners of veterans – The Together Programme, which we first piloted in 2018. On 12 September, Office for Veterans' Affairs launched a new directory and a set of online guides to help UK veterans and their families easily access services and resources, including mental health support and advice about employment and housing. The online guides provide veterans with quick links to advice and support, with an option to filter organisations using topic and location. The theme of 2024’s World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’, which aims to reshape how we think and talk about suicide in order to inspire empathy and open conversation about the subject. We hope that any veteran reading this who is struggling with their mental health knows that support is available, and that they’re never alone. If you or someone you know is in a mental health emergency or dangerous situation, please call 999 for immediate support. For any veteran who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, Samaritans’ Veterans Support Hub for the military community can be reached on 0808 175 3075. Today we're warning of dire consequences for veterans if demand for our specialist support continues to outgrow our services. If new referrals to Combat Stress rise by 15% in the current financial year, we will need an extra £2.5 million to meet the demand. Without that additional funding, veterans will be at risk of not getting the treatment they need. This comes on the day that new research from King's Centre for Military Health Research and commissioned by Office for Veterans' Affairs has announced that the rate of probable post-traumatic stress disorder among veterans has increased to 1 in 10.
