  • Dietetic history nerds!🍴Looking back at 1960s trends like 1,000-calorie diets or the infamous cabbage soup craze can be a reminder of how far we’ve come — and what still holds value.  Here’s what we can take from some retro diet history mentioned in a recent Telegraph article:  ✅ Calorie awareness works — but go gently. Extreme restriction leads to deficiencies and fatigue. A moderate cut of 500-600 calories per day is more sustainable and healthier.  ✅ Protein and fiber are timeless. Diets like the "Air Hostess Diet" were too restrictive, but their focus on eggs, lean meat and salads can inspire balanced meals for satiety and nourishment.  ✅ Context matters. While one-food diets like cottage cheese are overly simplistic, incorporating them into diverse, nutrient-dense plans is key. Helping clients sort fads from facts has always been a cornerstone of our work. How do you guide clients toward sustainable habits in a world still enamored with quick fixes? https://bit.ly/4ibNQR5   #DietitiansInPractice #NutritionMatters #EvidenceBased

  •  You’ve heard the buzz about people using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) — but did you know Serena Williams was one of them? 🎾🏓 As someone who's focused on staying healthy, especially as a mom, Serena has been paying attention to how her body responds to different foods. For example, she discovered that while gelato didn’t spike her glucose much, pancakes and syrup did. 🍨🥞 This has sparked questions if anyone looking to optimize their health can use CGMs, not just people with diabetes. What do you think? 💬👇🏻 https://bit.ly/4fFS0yT #WellnessJourney #SerenaWilliams #HealthTech #CGM #Longevity

  • 🎯 Dietitians, are you leveraging the power of nutrition in managing Crohn's disease? Emerging research highlights the critical role of dietary patterns in managing symptoms and reducing flare-ups for Crohn's disease patients. 🥗💪   Key takeaways:  🌾 Fiber is your friend! A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and modified textures can improve symptoms and long-term outcomes.  🍋 Personalized nutrition matters: Diets like the Mediterranean or low-FODMAP can complement treatments, but always prioritize avoiding malnutrition.  💊 Micronutrient focus: Ensure patients maintain optimal levels of vitamin D, B12, and iron for better health outcomes.  🥛 Probiotics and prebiotics: Foods like yogurt, bananas, and lentils may boost gut health, though evidence for supplements is limited. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ Share your insights and tips for navigating diet therapy with Crohn's patients in the comments! https://wb.md/40NBqsh #Dietitians #IBDNutrition #CrohnsDiseaseCare

  • The viral TikTok 90-30-50 diet trend recommends a daily intake of 90g protein, 30g fiber and 50g fat, claiming it’s the key to weight loss and better health. 🧐 Here’s what to consider when clients ask about it:  - Customization is Key: The 90-30-50 breakdown doesn’t account for individual needs, potentially leaving some clients under-fueled or consuming excess calories. - Fiber Wins: This diet’s focus on 30g of fiber aligns with recommended levels (25-38g/day). Remind clients that both soluble and insoluble fibers are essential for satiety, gut health and stable blood sugar. - Quality of Fats: Educate on choosing plant-based fats like olives, nuts and seeds. Emphasize that healthier monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats should replace saturated fats for most clients. - Value in Structure: While the exact numbers may not suit everyone, structured eating patterns help with habit-building. Encourage clients to use these figures as starting points and adjust as needed. Ultimately, remind clients there’s no “one-size-fits-all” in nutrition. Tailored guidance goes a long way in supporting their unique health goals! 🍎🌱🥑 https://bit.ly/48NHkLN #Dietitians #NutritionTrends #PatientEducation
