We are grateful and proud of our decade-long partnership supporting the Active People, Healthy Nation™ Walkability Action Institute (WAI) which provides interdisciplinary teams a deep dive into the concepts, processes, strategies, and projects necessary for activity-friendly communities. The WAI continues to build on significant past wins including participation by 99 teams from across the nation, leveraging nearly $540 million to improve activity-friendly communities, and reaching more than 60 million people in 36 states! The WAI is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity and led by the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD). Healthy Places by Design serves as a WAI faculty member, and co-organizer and facilitator of the National WAI Alumni Network community of practice. https://lnkd.in/euzVBNMC #publichealth

Tip on cultivating power-building collaboration: Know when you are facilitating versus collaborating. While both serve important roles in processes related to community improvement and transformation, collaboration and facilitation are distinct. Successful collaboration is dynamic and fosters shared and meaningful participation from all partners throughout the phases of an initiative. Facilitation is more focused on creating a structure or environment that makes effective collaboration possible. If facilitation goals are prioritized over collaboration, it can result in sticking to inflexible agendas and timelines, and stifling organic and timely conversations and priorities that can most positively impact the community. Our commitment to unity is stronger than ever. The results of this week's elections indicate that we are a nation divided. No matter who won, a portion of us are happy and an equal portion of us are not. Such divisiveness can understandably garner feelings of hopelessness and threats to our well-being and core values. Our hope is that we heal and bridge the divides. The blog we wrote four years ago following the 2020 election - Mending Divided Communities with the Thread of Social Trust (https://lnkd.in/drtVHJx) - is still relevant, even with a different presidential election outcome. If you're wondering how to face your friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues who voted differently than you did, read Finding Common Ground in Divided Places (https://lnkd.in/eGi6MVb2) which we wrote following the 2016 election, and starts with "Dear Neighbor." Bottom line - we must rebuild unity with each other and within our communities. We remain steadfast to the words in our 2020 blog, "Creating a trusting country starts by creating socially connected, trusting communities at the local level through collaborative, community-led, place-based efforts. We have a lot of work to do, and we're ready. We hope you'll join us." - The Healthy Places by Design Team #resilience Photo source: www.freepik.com
