The HealthyW8 project aims to improve the effectiveness of obesity prevention initiatives in Europe by developing a digital-based healthy lifestyle recommender system. It will tailor interventions to individual needs and preferences, considering diet, physical activity, and psycho-emotional aspects. The project will focus on pivotal stages in individuals' lives where the risk of obesity is high, such as primary schoolchildren, young adults, and the elderly. Funded by the European Union. 🌍 This World Children’s Day, let’s protect the health of future generations Childhood obesity is a global crisis that demands urgent action. Today, 159 million children and adolescents are living with obesity, and by 2035, 88% of children with obesity will be in low- and middle-income countries. This alarming trend puts their health, futures, and global equity at risk. 💔 The Facts: 🔸 543 million children are expected to be living with obesity or overweight in 2025. 🔸 Childhood obesity rates have quadrupled since 1990, with the largest increases in Polynesia, Micronesia, the Caribbean, and parts of Asia. 🔸 37 million children under 5 are living with overweight, and 42% of them are in lower-middle-income countries. 🔸 Aggressive marketing of unhealthy foods is driving these trends, targeting vulnerable children and fuelling a rise in poor health outcomes. 💡 The Solutions: To create healthier futures for all children, we must: ✅ Limit unhealthy food marketing that targets children. ✅ Ensure equitable access to nutritious food and physical activity opportunities. ✅ Invest in public health policies and education to tackle childhood obesity. ✅ Address the social, environmental, and commercial factors driving this crisis.
