As my site duties change from being a site medic to an EHS role, I always carry with me Emergency use-ONLY-bleeding control. This includes 3 Israeli Pressure Bandages, 1 Tourniquet (2 in total) and 2 Chest Seals from North American Rescue, LLC. It's important to know what hypovolemic shock is. This dangerous condition occurs when your heart can't get your body the blood (and oxygen) it needs to function, due to a loss of more than 20% of your blood volume. You can also get hypovolemic shock from losing a large amount of fluids after a lot of diarrhea, throwing up or sweating. It's crucial to seek treatment right away by calling 911 in case of this medical emergency. #constructionsafety #EHS

Tragic Trench Collapse Leads to Fatality in Shawnee, Oklahoma, February 7, 2024 In Shawnee, Oklahoma, a construction site turned into a tragic scene when the walls of under-construction trenches collapsed, leading to a fatality. Investigations are ongoing. In the city of Shawnee, Oklahoma, a construction site transformed into a scene of tragedy when the walls of under-construction trenches collapsed, causing a fatality. The unfortunate incident occurred near the Shawnee Mall, located on North Kickapoo. The Shawnee Police Department confirmed the death, turning a routine construction day into an emergency situation. The event unfolded as the walls of the trenches, still in the construction phase, gave way. Emergency crews and law enforcement were immediately dispatched to the scene, tasked with managing the immediate aftermath of the collapse and ensuring the safety of the site. Their swift response was crucial in dealing with the tragic situation. As this is an ongoing situation, the details surrounding the incident are yet to be fully revealed. Tourniquets are our last option to control major bleeds. Compression bandages can make a difference when used properly. I highly recommend having these bandages in everyone's first aid kit. https://lnkd.in/esZHwwJg

“Here is a patient that was peri-arrest with tension pneumo/hemothorax. He was decompressed with a 10g ARS needle. He had return of ETCO2 and BP after decompression.” Needle decompression buys you time to transport a patient to definitive care where a chest tube can be inserted. This is an advanced skill that is beyond the scope of many first responders and civilians BUT one that can and has saved lives. “Burying to the hub” is NOT recommended and may lead to further injury of your patient. Be smart - know your anatomy and landmarks, reassess any intervention, never stop learning, and follow your Medical Director’s guidance!
