About us

As the 30th largest employer in Wichita, KS, serving children throughout the region and country, Heartspring makes life-changing differences for children with neurodevelopmental challenges. Utilizing a unique, interdisciplinary, strengths-based approach, we assist families in discovering what their child excels at to address the challenges they need help with. We’re committed to turning possibilities into realities for every child who walks through our doors. Through our Pediatric Outpatient Clinic, Therapeutic Residential and Day School, and Community Engagement programs, we provide comprehensive support for children with neurodevelopmental delays and disorders — including autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, intellectual and learning challenges, communication challenges, motor development issues, ADHD, and more. Originally known as the Institute of Logopedics, we’ve pioneered pediatric therapies and special education throughout our 90-year history in the heart of the United States. Our founder, Dr. Martin Palmer, completely changed how children with neurodevelopmental disorders receive healthcare and education. We continue to honor his legacy of innovation and dedication to the children and families we serve within the halls of our campus and beyond.

  • Early action: ✅ Supports Developmental Milestones – Early support can help children develop important skills like walking, talking, or interacting with others. ✅ Builds Strong Foundations – Small challenges now can grow into bigger ones later. Addressing them early can set your child up for long-term success. ✅ Empowers Families – Early intervention gives parents tools, resources, and confidence to help their child thrive. ✅ Maximizes Brain Plasticity – The earlier you act, the more flexible and responsive the brain is to intervention strategies. For more information about Heartspring services and how we can help your child lead a happy, healthy life through early intervention, read our latest article at https://loom.ly/1Mfhz5Q!

  • Our Community Engagement team developed a new route for our students to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, designed to create access and opportunity for all students within the Heartspring Therapeutic School. The Meals on Wheels open route runs once a week and allows students who do not currently have Meals on Wheels in their particular classroom setting to participate in community-based instruction. This instruction targets specific behaviors and social skills, including, safety on the streets, taking turns, waiting behaviors, following directions, keeping hands to self, and more! Vocational Coordinator Tony Rassel developed the Meals on Wheels open route and will be taking the lead in the implementation and development of the program. We are very grateful for this opportunity for our students as it will allow them continued access to community-based instruction to achieve their post-secondary goals.

  • While we don't have the answer as to why there’s a significant increase in neurodevelopmental disorder diagnoses, there are ways to address children's growing need for care. Children evolve rapidly in their first few years of life, and Heartspring’s interdisciplinary therapies help develop effective communication, advance motor skills, and support learning. • Crystal G. Hough is not your typical CFO — and we love that! We had the opportunity to celebrate Crystal this afternoon at the Wichita Business Journal's CFO Awards, honoring the top financial executives in the Wichita area. If you've met her, you know she's bright, bubbly, caring, fashionable, and above all, a talented financial expert who helps keep Heartspring a thriving organization so we can serve more families and children. This award is incredibly deserved, and we're so excited she's recognized amongst her colleagues in the community!

  • We always strive for client satisfaction, so we conduct surveys throughout the year to evaluate their experiences. As a part of our Outpatient Services' CARF International Accreditation, we send surveys to parents, caregivers, AND the children we serve! It was important to tailor the children's survey questions to match their comprehension levels, which means using simplified language and even emojis! Some highlights: "I feel safe with my therapist at Heartspring" - 100% of survey responses said "Yes." I am able to do something I was not able to do before - 100% of survey responses said "Yes" or "Sometimes." "I get to do fun things at Heartspring" - 100% of survey responses said "Yes" or "Sometimes." A HUGE shoutout to our wonderful Outpatient Services staff who make therapies for children and families a safe experience and space to grow and learn.

  • Ty’s been a student at Heartspring’s Residential and Therapeutic Day School for more than 12 years! We’ve seen him grow and make tremendous progress, and we’re so grateful his family sat down with us to talk about Ty and their experience enrolling him in our school from out-of-state so other parents, caregivers, and guardians know their families and children can be just as successful. 💙 Read their full story at https://loom.ly/OGZAms0.

  • Every student in the Heartspring Therapeutic Residential & Day School has a team to rally around their every need. Our internal teams meet at least once a week and invite external stakeholders like parents, guardians, and home district representatives to an all-encompassing meeting at least once a month. This interdisciplinary and supportive environment fosters collaboration and communication between team members across the organization. No one is alone at Heartspring because working together yields better results for the children in our care. It's really that simple.

  • Heartspring continues to grow as a national destination for families who need therapies and special education for their children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Our future multi-clinic facility in Wichita’s Health Care Corridor will be located alongside leading healthcare partners and providers. Combined with our Therapeutic School and Community Engagement programs, we’re one of the few organizations in the entire country with these unique specialties. • We're letting joy and color lead the way to our classrooms! 🎨 Many of our students work best with visual aids, and color-coding the squares for each classroom will help them better identify where they're supposed to go. Not to mention how much it will help new staff and visitors! Julie Noller, our Special Projects Coordinator said, "Walking down the hallway and seeing the colors just makes me smile." 💙🧡💜🩷
