California is investing over $91 million to support affordable housing and homelessness solutions for Native American communities through the Tribal Homekey and Tribal Homeless Housing, Assistance, and Prevention Program. The goal is to help create more accessible housing and address homelessness in underserved communities. A recent report by the National Association of Home Builders reveals that rent and homeownership costs are continuing to rise at a rate well above 5%. In fact, over the past year more than half of overall inflation in the economy has been driven by rising housing costs. With elevated interest rates for both mortgages and development/construction loans, the only way to effectively address shelter inflation is to build more attainable affordable housing.
