From Odysseus’ epic travels to Greece’s leading role in global shipping today, Hellenic mariners have navigated the high seas for thousands of years. To commemorate the legacy of these sailors, a private donor is funding the development of the new Park of Maritime Tradition “Odysseus – The Greeks and the Sea” in Flisvos, Athens. Upon completion, the Park will be donated to the Greek State, under the custody of the Hellenic Navy and the Ministry of Defense. Envisioned as a cultural and scientific hub, the Park will feature indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces, an auditorium, and multi-purpose spaces. At its dock, the Park will display historic ships, including the Olympias, a functional reconstruction of an ancient trireme, the Proteus II submarine, and the Hellas Liberty Floating Museum. The project implementation team refurbished the Proteus to serve as an onshore exhibit, accessible to visitors, and transferred the vessel to the Park in January. Kyrgyzstan’s capital is flipping the switch on energy! Orta Asya Investment Holding is set to energize an existing power plant in Bishkek with a new natural gas-fired, combined heat and power, combined-cycle power plant facility. With a designed thermal capacity of 130 gigacalories per hour and an electrical capacity of 250 MW, the new $300 million power plant will help meet the city’s growing energy demands and urban development needs, enhance energy reliability, lower heating and electricity costs, and address air pollution caused by coal-fired plants. Hill will establish and manage the project’s program management office, implementing best practices in planning and executing energy projects to drive on-time, on-budget delivery. To better manage the inherent complexity of rail and transit projects, government agencies and other owners around the world are implementing new and innovative delivery methods. One such method is “dual delivery,” which involves splitting up a single project to take advantage of the different benefits associated with different delivery methods. Light rail is coming to South Phoenix! The Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority has been testing their new South Central Light Rail Extension since January, with a grand opening scheduled for later this year. Last week, the testing reached a new milestone as trains crossed over the Salt River Bridge toward South Phoenix. The project will deliver more than five miles of new light rail between Downtown and South Phoenix, expanding transit access to key economic, cultural, and residential locations throughout the city. The Extension will feature eight stations, two park-and-ride facilities, and public art at all of the new stations. Our construction management team has helped Valley Metro RPTA overcome key challenges, such as managing the installation and integration of perpendicular light rail crossings with an overhead catenary system in the downtown area. Gaynor CEM® and Director of Response Operations Chad Freeman traveled to Ukraine to meet with government leaders and representatives from the U.S. Embassy, the American Chamber of Commerce (ACC), the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), and potential local partners to discuss the status of post-war reconstruction efforts.
