Dr. Kelly Nagasawa, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, recently performed Hillcrest Medical Center's first single-anesthesia event, combining an ION lung biopsy and a lung resection into one procedure. The ION lung biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure to diagnose lung cancer. After the biopsy was performed to locate cancerous nodules, Dr. Nagasawa immediately performed a lung resection to surgically remove the nodules. Single-anesthesia events reduce patient stress, lead to shorter hospital stays and minimize risks for patients. They can often recover quicker and return home sooner. Congratulations to Dr. Nagasawa and the entire team for this significant achievement!

Meet the steering committee of the Women @ Ardent physician leadership series at Hillcrest. Drs. Kyle Brett, Melanie Ketchandji, Rachael Pattison and Leslie Walker with the support of Hillcrest Medical Center CEO Xavier Villarreal launched a series dedicated to female physicians that is meant to empower, grow and enrich their professional and personal lives. The first of five meetings was held in December 2023 and has continued every quarter. Each meeting, facilitated by Tracy Spears, has had a different focus from meaningful discussions about change, tips to influence a room, learning from Hillcrest South CEO Laura Hennum and becoming your own advocate for change featuring a fantastic panel of community female leaders. The steering committee plans to expand and continue to host quarterly events in 2025. We couldn’t think of a better day than Women Physicians Day to honor this group for their leadership and dedication to making Hillcrest an impactful place to work for female physicians. #WomenPhysiciansDay
