What stands out in this technological story is the energy logistics. With just 8 MW available from the grid at its opening this summer, xAI still managed to power about 32,000 H100 GPUs before the expanded deal with Tennessee Valley Authority. With each GPU consuming at least 700 watts, not to mention the rest of the supporting infrastructure, Musk's operation required far more than 8 MW, around 155 MW in total. This is where power flexibility and creativity came into play. xAI found a temporary solution by deploying 14 VoltaGrid mobile generators, each providing about 2.5 MW, which, in addition to the 8 MW from the grid, allowed them to run a third of their 100,000-unit fleet before securing an additional 50 MW from TVA. And now, the xAI Colossus has received approval from the Tennessee Valley Authority to draw the requested 150MW from the state's power grid. Deutsche Telekom to stabilize the grid through Bitcoin mining 👇 Deutsche Telekom's subsidiary, MMS, is getting into Bitcoin mining. The plan is to utilize excess renewable energy like solar and wind to stabilize Germany's power grid. Head of digital trust and Web3 at Telekom MMS, Oliver Nyderle, highlighted the need for more infrastructure to manage the German grid amid increasing sustainable energy sources and described their initiative as "digital monetary photosynthesis."
