The Yemelianov family, Sasha, Anna, Daniel and Max resided in Mariupol, Ukraine before the invasion of Russia. Mariupol, now occupied by Russia, was one of the hardest hit cities. The family’s home and business were destroyed, and they had no choice but to flee to the village that Anna grew up in to find refuge with Anna’s parents. Tragically Anna’s father was killed by a missile attack on the village. Making the difficult decision to leave Ukraine, the Yemelianovs left for Germany with Sasha’s mother and sister. Daniel, Sasha and Anna’s eldest son, had to remain in Kiev. Daniel is engaged and studying to be a lawyer, though the war has disrupted his studies. After living in Germany for about a year, the Yemelianovs, sponsored by Home Team 89 resettled in Santa Ana, CA.
