  • For most of us, the level of speed that professional sprinters achieve is something we will never experience in our lives. They are literally testing the limits of human motion every time they compete. This is “The Science of Sprinting.” Each episode of this new, original 10-episode series delivers an insider POV as athletes and HSS clinicians explore the science behind these incredible feats of athleticism.

  • Maureen Heneghan, physician assistant: "To me, embracing Pride comes easy and goes beyond the month of June. I celebrate diversity, love, and acceptance in my family every day throughout the year. Teaching my daughter and son the importance of inclusivity can be challenging, but modeling an accepting environment and treating all people with kindness and respect is an ongoing effort in our two-mom family. Being part of the HSS family that supports #LGBTQIA+ patients and staff means there is always someone who cares about you. My colleagues are my close friends. Having the support of colleagues when navigating through both work and personal challenges is important, especially when seeking advice on fun-size humans. Likewise, standing in solidarity with my colleagues at HSS allows patients to feel safe and accepted in a particularly vulnerable time surrounding their health." #PrideMonth

  • Runner? Jumper? Thrower? If you ask a heptathlete, they’ll tell you all the above. While most professional athletes get to focus on trying to be the best at one sport, this event requires heptathletes to be a master of them all. This is “The Science of Heptathlon.” Each episode of this new, original 10-episode series delivers an insider POV as athletes and HSS clinicians explore the science behind these incredible feats of athleticism.

  • Recently, HSS Long Island was proud to support pickleball tournaments at Life Time Inc.’s locations in Garden City and Syosset. Over a hundred athletes competed in both individual and team brackets during these multi-day events. The Physician Liaison team engaged with community pickleball players from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties at each location by sharing information about the many services offered on Long Island.

  • If you shrunk a 16lb bowling ball down to the size of a grapefruit and then sink a shot from the free-throw line of a basketball court, you’d be the best shot putter in the world. This is “The Science of Shot Put.” Each episode of this new, original 10-episode series delivers an insider POV as athletes and HSS clinicians explore the science behind these incredible feats of athleticism.

  • Today, we recognize #Juneteenth also known as Freedom Day, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the emancipation of slaves in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger, commander of a mostly Black contingent of the Union army in Galveston, Texas, read the Executive Order proclaiming that all slaves in the United States were now free in accordance with President Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation. As we reflect on the significance of Juneteenth in the history of our country, HSS is committed to an environment of respect, equitable treatment, and opportunity for our patients, employees, and communities. Consistent with our commitment, we encourage all to support organizations and participate in community service activities that advance social justice.
