Special thanks to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for leading yesterday’s conversation on the Equitable Housing Collaborative’s new CDFI mortgage product. This innovative initiative aims to make homeownership more accessible to first-time and low-wealth homebuyers—a critical step toward equity in housing. Additionally, SURE, alongside partners from Opportunity Finance Network, Elevate’s Relay Network, Community Sustainability Partners, Forsyth Street, Bright Power, Inc., and Sustainable Capital Advisors, collaborated with members from coalitions awarded NCIF, CCIA, and Solar for All funding. Together, they envisioned how to implement IRA/GGRF investments effectively, transforming a one-time influx of federal funds into lasting green energy infrastructure—centered on residents and communities. “It’s not just about the house. Actually, it’s not about the house at all.” cdcb is redefining community development in the Rio Grande Valley border towns of Texas, using housing as a tool to build wealth and create dreams. At this fall’s inspiring member meeting, the cdcb team bookended the event with a powerful presentation. They shared the historical context of the region and its generational impacts, highlighted an impressive array of programs designed in response to the community’s needs, and showcased housing as an anchor—not the sole focus—of their development strategy. Loan products from our Housing Partnership Fund play a vital role in supporting this approach, which goes far beyond bricks and mortar to create real, lasting change. #HPNAustin

“For the residents.”  “Ready to work.”  At our biannual member meeting, CEO Robin Hughes echoed two succinct, resonant reminders from the CEO session to ground how and why we forge forward as a membership association, prompted by the theme, “A Defining Moment for our Industry,” for today’s Opening Plenary.  Moderated by Noel Andrés Poyo with panelists Priya Jayachandran, Ismael Guerrero, and Kevin Nowak and active member participation, highlights included the challenge of facing multiple chronic headwinds at the same time, the reality of housing as a bipartisan issue (and a major challenge for Americans along with inflation), and the need for new, bigger solutions and broader coalitions—all with the success of residents (and future residents) as the North Star.  Noted Kevin, “A time of change is a time of opportunity.” #HPNAustin

Our 61st biannual member meeting (not a conference!) in Austin is now underway with our unmatched brand of peer networking among the nation’s leading affordable housing and community development practitioners. This is our third time in ATX and our largest gathering to date with 275 attendees representing 70 percent of member organizations. That includes 76 first-timers and 48 CEOs taking time out of their busy days and pressing priorities to exchange ideas and do more together. #HPNAustin
