  • 🎉 Happy New Year, Houston/Galveston PIO Network! 🎉 Let’s launch 2025 with purpose, connection, and innovation! We’re thrilled to invite you to our First Meeting of the Year, where we’ll set the stage for a year of collaboration and excellence in public safety communication. 📅 Save the Date: When: Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM Where: TxDOT Houston HQ - 7600 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007 (Thank you, TxDOT!) This year, we’re starting strong with an inspiring and thought-provoking presentation: 🔍 Featured Topic: Teaching Strategic Communication for Crises and Emergent Situations Presented by: Dr. Toni Hoang, Associate Professor of Communication, University of Houston-Downtown Interactive news platforms, social media apps, and even generative artificial intelligence are constantly reacting to and shaping the ways, in which we communicate with various audiences. While technology plays a dynamic role in the delivery of emergency messages, it also has an impact on the message development process. One of the primary objectives in teaching strategic communication is to understand and apply theory-grounded approaches through evidence-based research. Adding to this challenge are the diverse backgrounds students bring to the class. This presentation will highlight the changing landscape of crisis communication, teaching practices for diverse student backgrounds, and using adaptive teaching and learning practices for new, mid, and senior-career professionals. Whether you’re navigating new technologies, honing your message strategies, or looking for fresh perspectives, this session will offer valuable insights you won’t want to miss.   ✨ Let’s come together to learn, grow, and set the tone for an incredible 2025. Bring your ideas, your passion, and your commitment to excellence in public communication. 📣 Spread the word and bring a colleague! See you there! Thank you, Johnny, Lee, Gemalie, Ekland, and LeaAnn
