Houston Hospice is a nonprofit hospice providing quality, end-of-life care to patients and families in Southeast Texas.
About us
Houston Hospice is Greater Houston's oldest, largest, independent, nonprofit hospice. Founded in 1980, we are a leader in the hospice care industry and provide services to patients and families of all ages and ethnicities. Headquartered in the Texas Medical Center, Houston Hospice serves 13 counties across Texas and includes: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Waller, and Wharton. We believe no one should live in pain or in fear of being alone. Teams of physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, counselors and trained volunteers provide physical, emotional and spiritual support in homes, assisted living community, and in our Margaret Cullen Marshall Hospice Care Center located in the Texas Medical Center. Teams work with primary care physicians, patients and families to identify goals and create a unique plan of care for each patient. We offer educated counsel and compassionate support and bereavement counseling to loved ones and family members. Houston Hospice is an in-network provider for most insurance companies and is licensed by Medicare and Medicaid. Houston Hospice is a member of the Texas Medical Center, Texas Non-Profit Hospice Alliance and the Texas New Mexico Hospice Organization. Houston Hospice is accredited by the National Institute for Jewish Hospice and by Community Health Accreditation Program, Inc (CHAP). CHAP accreditation publicly certifies that an organization has voluntarily met the highest standards of excellence for home and/or community-based health care.

A common misconception about hospice care is you must go to a facility to live out the rest of your days. And that’s just not the whole truth. There are four levels of hospice care and, believe it or not, most patients receive hospice care at home. 1️⃣ Routine home care – our interdisciplinary team (doctor, nurse, hospice aide, social worker, chaplain, bereavement counselor, volunteer) visits you in your home and works hand-in-hand with your family to ensure you receive the necessary care 2️⃣ Continuous crisis care – if a patient is experiencing a temporary crisis with symptoms, eight hours per day of nursing care may be provided; when the crisis is over, routine home care resumes 3️⃣ General inpatient care – this level of care is reserved for patients who have unrelieved symptoms that cannot be managed at home; patients will be admitted to our inpatient unit on a short-term basis; once symptoms are under control, routine home care resumes 4️⃣ Respite care – provides relief for families who may need to rest and recharge; patients will stay for up to five days in our inpatient unit in the Texas Medical Center to receive care Our goal is to make sure each and every hospice patient receives exactly the level of care they need. · · · #endoflife #hospice #hospicecare #hospicelife #houstonhospice

At today’s volunteer Lunch & Learn, “Demystifying Admissions: Understanding the Journey to Hospice Care,” Houston Hospice volunteers were treated to a presentation by our new Care Access Manager, Heath. Heath explained the different levels of hospice care and gave examples of specific scenarios to help our volunteers better answer questions they make be asked by family and friends of patients. The presentation was followed by many insightful questions and answers. We love providing educational opportunities for our volunteers to equip them with the necessary tools to be of service to our patients and families.

In hospice, we are honored to help many people through their grief as part of our bereavement program. It is one of the most important services we offer at Houston Hospice and is available for 13 months after the passing of a loved one. We provide one-on-one counseling or group classes and are here to support YOU. We also can refer you to other local resources or even out-of-state resources, if needed. If you have questions – or just want to talk – please contact our bereavement team today at 713-677-7155. #grief #bereavement #endoflife #hospice #hospicecare #hospicelife #houstonhospice

As a We Honor Veterans Level 4 Partner in Southeast Texas, Houston Hospice has more to offer our veteran patients and their families than most. One example of this is a pinning ceremony, where we honor our veterans with a special pin, certificate and U.S. flag recognizing and thanking them for their service. If you’re interested in learning more about our service to veterans, please call 713-HOSPICE (713-467-7423). #veterans #wehonorveterans #hospice #hospicesupport #houstonhospice
