🎉 We are thrilled to announce that Neil Wallace, graduate of the MSc Clinical Trials at UCC has won the prestigious 2023 David Sackett Young Investigator Award for the best publication in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology by a young researcher his groundbreaking research for his thesis paper on ethnicity reporting in clinical trials!🎉 This work was supervised by Dr Frances Shiely, at the HRB Clinical Research Facility - University College Cork, The School of Public Health UCC, UCC Medicine and Health & HRB- Trials Methodology Research Network Ireland. Neil's research has shed crucial light on the persistent challenges in recording and reporting participant ethnicity in clinical trials. The findings demonstrate the Underrecording and underreporting of ethnicity in clinical trials: while 67% of trials collect ethnicity data, only 9% provide comprehensive details on collection and reporting methods. This research doesn't just identify problems - it offers concrete solutions through practical recommendations that will help shape the future of clinical trial design. Further work in the area of inclusivity in trials is the SENSITISE (Inclusive Clinical Trials Training and Education) project. Follow the trial on LinkedIn and Twitter and for outputs which will be freely available to all, see the trial website: https://lnkd.in/erh-YQfm for further details.
