Earlier this year, we were recognized on Disability:IN's Disability Equality Index as a “Best Place to Work for People with Disabilities”—an incredible honor that highlights our commitment to building and maintaining a culture of belonging for all. Our Disability Hiring Initiative is just one of the ways that we intentionally work towards ensuring an inclusive environment for employees. Programs like our internal network resource group, ACCESS, advocate for the disabled community both within Humana and for the members and patients we serve. We also ensure that through our Supplier Diversity Program, we're working with businesses that are inclusive in their practices and reflect our values. And while we are committed to this work every day, today—International Day of Persons with Disabilities—is a great reminder for us to continue to challenge the status quo and break down barriers both within our offices and outside of them. Louisville isn’t just Humana’s headquarters, it’s home. And with the help of the Humana Foundation, we’re dedicated to making it a better place for all. That includes investing in community partners like Home of the Innocents—an organization on the frontlines, delivering care and hope for our neighbors in need.
The Humana Foundation understands the importance of its work and history in its hometown of Louisville, KY. During a recent strategy session in Louisville, the Foundation team visited and volunteered at the Home of the Innocents, an organization approaching one and a half centuries of providing care, hope and love for Kentucky’s most vulnerable. Home of the Innocents offers care and assistance to more than 10,000 children and families. The Humana Foundation is investing in Home of the Innocents in support of delivery of the sanctuary model for clinical care in Louisville, designed to reduce additional trauma to children. We invite you to watch this video about the inspiring work of our partner Home of the Innocents. Together, and as our CEO Tiffany Benjamin says in the video, "We are a community. We are part of the Louisville community. And we intend to be here for a very long time."

Following medication schedules as prescribed can have an impact on more than just health—it can affect healthcare use and costs, too. A recent Humana Healthcare Research study found that inconsistencies in medication adherence were associated with increased likelihood of healthcare resource utilization, such as emergency room visits and inpatient stays, and increased costs for patients taking medications to treat diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Get a more in-depth look at medication adherence and the overall impact in our recent study: https://huma.na/3NqCbzC

Tonya Shown, a MarketPoint Senior Culture and Engagement Professional, knows first-hand how difficult it can be to balance life, work, caregiving and whatever else is thrown your way. As a caregiver herself, she finds balance through personal strength and support from the Caregivers Network Resource Group (NRG). “Being a part of Caregivers NRG has provided the support I needed during tough times in my caregiving journey. I have learned from others in similar situations,” says Tonya, “but most importantly, it has shown me that I am not alone.” The Caregiver NRG understands all forms of care and is devoted to supporting employees throughout their caregiving journey. As a citizen of the Flathead Salish Tribal Nation in Western Montana and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Humana employee Terry Asay found personal and professional support as a member and co-president of Humana’s Native American and Indigenous (NA&I) Network Resource Group (NRG), a group that advocates for the inclusion of Native Americans and allies. “The Native American and Indigenous NRG provides a place to express myself as a Native American member and to learn from and share with others about impactful issues facing our community,” said Terry. “I was invited to share my experience during an episode of the NRG’s podcast and felt fully supported as I shared my personal and painful journey of self-actualization. Being involved in the group also allows me to expand my network and increase collaboration across Humana in personal and meaningful ways.” No matter where you are in your personal or professional journey, there is a place for you at Humana.
