Education, Support and Hope for people facing breast or gynecologic cancer concerns on California’s North Coast

About us

Founded in 1997, the Breast and GYN Health Project offers support, information, eduation and hope for women and families facing breast or gynecologic cancer or a cancer concern on California's north coast. We were started by local breast cancer survivors. All services are free of charge. Most volunteers and staff are cancer survivors themselves. We continue the tradition of one-to-one support, support groups, lending library, patient navigation, decision support and medical visit consultation planning. We are a local non-profit, not part of local hospitals or health system, so we are 100% in support of client's interests.

  • Thank you Open Door Clinicians and Staff! You're a great partner for patients facing cancer, and you pull in the Breast and GYN Health Project to support them. Our community deserves a strong network of care, helping community members access the best medical care possible.

Preventative care is the cornerstone of a healthy community, and at Open Door Community Health Centers, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive preventative services to all our patients. Preventative care includes routine check-ups, screenings, immunizations, and education on healthy lifestyle choices, all aimed at preventing illnesses before they start. By focusing on preventative care, we can detect potential health issues early, when they are often easier and less costly to treat. This proactive approach helps reduce the risk of serious health problems and improves overall quality of life. From managing chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension to offering nutritional guidance and mental health support, our preventative services are designed to keep you and your family healthy.

A new film, Chimi Nu’ Arariihkanheesh: The Healing Journey, highlights the impacts of substance abuse on native youth. “The creation of this film began because Two Feathers has recognized that many of our youth are impacted by substance use through family, community or their own personal youth,” Amy Mathieson said. “And so we felt that it was really important for our youth to be able to share their stories with the community and to also share about how they’ve been able to heal and go on a healing journey with the support of Two Feathers.” The word is Karuk word meaning “in this way we heal together” which emphasizes the candid nature of talking through their experiences with drugs, alcohol, and other substances. This film will be released online soon.
