  • The humcollective Q2 2024 newsletter is live. We are talking about wisdom as the antidote to uncertainty in the face of AI.

Statements of the Wise “I feel you”: Wisdom fosters genuine empathy and compassion, and promotes kindness and respect. In Confucian thought, wisdom ties closely to ren, meaning humaneness or benevolence. “You can trust me”: Guided by strong ethics, wise individuals uphold integrity and trust in their decisions. They align to their personal values and a wider community vision. "Let’s take a wider view”: Wise people consider diverse viewpoints, enriching decision-making. In Buddhism, wisdom (prajna) is vital for enlightenment. It requires seeing things as they truly are, beyond illusions. “I don’t know”: Socrates said, “the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” Wise individuals embrace uncertainty and doubt, recognizing knowledge limits and staying open to new perspectives.

  • The tools and practices of foresight are essential as part of organizational systems like planning, but if the people who are practicing foresight still have rigid mindsets, it doesn't stick. Equally important are the ways we teach individuals and leaders to handle uncertainty. The mindsets and skill sets required are counter to what the industrial era has taught. We must unlearn our reliance on reason, rightness, and predictability. We are moving into a new era, human wisdom is a centerpiece for managing and thriving at work and in our personal lives. I propose a holistic approach where individuals, leaders and systems are all working in one direction, the direction of the future.

  • Our emphasis on logic can be traced back to the Enlightenment, where reason was championed as the key to progress. This translated into a focus on scientific inquiry, efficiency and productivity, and linear thinking. There’s no doubt this left brain dominance has created innovation and growth, but it’s not without its downsides. Reductionist thinking can lead to: Difficulty with innovation and problem-solving: Without the right brain’s ability to think outside the box, businesses may struggle to adapt to changing circumstances. Reduced empathy and collaboration: Left-brain dominance can lead to a transactional approach to work, neglecting the importance of human connection and teamwork. Short-sighted decision-making: A focus on immediate results comes at the expense of long-term vision and consideration of the human impact. ✴️We need all of our human wisdom in the age of AI. ✴️ Human wisdom is more than just knowledge; it’s the ability to see the big picture, embrace intuition and empathy, and think creatively. By reclaiming these right brain strengths, we can unlock our full potential and navigate the complexities of today’s world. That's what we advocate at humcollective. Join us.

Over the past three years, humcollective has dedicated its efforts to refining a modern model of leadership and team effectiveness called The Sensitivity Paradigm™. Our aim now is expanded outreach to B Corps, social enterprises, groundbreaking startups tackling societal challenges, and forward-thinking leaders to share leadership programs designed specifically for them. I am personally seeking to support more coaching clients in their journeys navigating life and leadership with a sense of completeness and coherence.

My kind of people are the progressives who are dissatisfied with the status quo - who want more for themselves and the organizations they lead. When I left Google almost three years ago, I couldn't have known where the journey would lead. It's been a ride through the unknown terrain of becoming ever more clear on what matters to me and the value I can bring to my coaching and consulting clients through humcollective. What it all comes down to is I am ready for a radical shift in how we lead ourselves and our businesses because more of the same (as we all know) leads to more of the same. That's not going to unlock the potential of our collective futures and solve for the BIG challenges of our times. What is? Saying yes to a workplace revolution. Thanks to Dreamers & Doers® for the spotlight.

  • Deloitte recently coined the term “Human Sustainability” to capture the new requirement for organizations:  the degree to which the organization creates value for people as human beings, leaving them with greater health and well-being, stronger skills and greater employability, good jobs, opportunities for advancement, progress toward equity, increased belonging, and heightened connection to purpose. In order to create value for people as human beings, we must go back to being human at work and embrace our human sensibilities. That is why I developed The Sensitivity Paradigm™. I believe we can reclaim our ability to understand ourselves, others and create organizations that embody the ethos of humanity. The Sensitivity Paradigm™ teaches three things: 1️⃣ Holistic Awareness: discover how we can flourish by using our innate human capacities. 2️⃣ Reflexive Leadership: build future ready perspectives and leadership practices to guide organizations. 3️⃣ Strategic Innovation: unlock bold visions and develop the tactical strategies to adapt and thrive. Do you want to build an organization that embraces Human Sustainability? The Sensitivity Paradigm™ can help you create this modern workplace.
