Check out this Amtrak analysis of their fiscal 2024 ridership and revenue record...👇 "Note the relationship between length of trips and frequencies. The Northeast Corridor’s 24,530 trains produced 2.5 billion passenger-miles while the long-distance network generated about 2.2 billion passenger miles with 13,047 fewer departures. Meanwhile, state-supported service delivered the fewest passenger-miles with almost 70% of the trains. While all these numbers may make eyes glaze over, they show the ways beyond ridership and revenue that Amtrak’s network can be valued." 💯 [Analysis by Bob Johnston] https://buff.ly/4i5PZxl #connectedjourney 💻 🚆 📱

In rail connectivity, not all solutions are created equal. A common misconception is that openly distributed, consumer-grade, off-the-shelf (COTS) routers are less “proprietary” because they’re widely available through various distributors. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Here’s why: – Locked Ecosystems: COTS hardware often comes with fixed firmware and limited integration capabilities, tying operators into a rigid ecosystem controlled by the hardware manufacturer. Despite their "availability," these systems offer little flexibility or control to the end user. – Limited Adaptability: While marketed as “off-the-shelf,” these routers are not designed for rail’s unique demands, like managing cellular handoffs at high speeds or integrating with advanced technologies like SpaceX’s Starlink. They are proprietary to their generic, fixed-purpose applications—not adaptable to evolving rail environments. – Vendor Dependence: The open distribution model doesn’t mean open functionality. Operators remain dependent on the original manufacturer for updates, support, and fixes—none of which are optimized for rail’s specific needs. At Icomera, we reject the limits of generic, openly distributed hardware. Our solutions are purpose-built for rail, designed to scale with technological advancements, and tailored to create seamless, integrated ecosystems. Choosing the right partner isn’t about what’s on the shelf; it’s about what’s in the system. #RailConnectivity #PurposeBuilt #FutureReady

Technology may power progress, but relationships sustain it. At the BWCS Train Communications Systems Conference last week, Anand Chaubey, MBA, Eng reminded me that during the toughest moments, it's the trust, communication, and partnerships we’ve cultivated that see us through. 🤝 In an industry driven by #connectivity, it’s the authentic relationships behind the innovation that keep us moving forward. The most impactful tech solutions aren’t just built—they’re co-created through collaboration and shared vision. This is why we invest in the connections that matter—because strong partnerships don’t just solve problems; they create possibilities. #ConnectivityMatters #InnovationThroughCollaboration #TechWithPurpose #Partnership #InspiringPartners

The 2024 Commuter Rail Summit brought together policymakers, stakeholders, and thought leaders from across the industry to discuss everything from AI to climate resiliency. In Railway Age, KellyAnne Gallagher, CEO at the Commuter Rail Coalition, shares her five takeaways from the event. “We don’t have to imagine the future of commuter rail, said Gabriel J. Lopez-Bernal, President of Icomera North America. As technologies like machine learning and AI transform both the passenger and operator experience, the future is here. At the Summit, vendors described AI solutions for weapons detection, unmanned track inspections that can find broken rail joints and defects in the locomotives themselves, and automated wheel profile systems that heat air to keep optical pathways clear in snow.” Check the link in the comments for more highlights.
