    #Anticipation #HappinessScience ✨ "Anticipation is the purest form of pleasure." — The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin ✨ Over the weekend, I took my son and his friend to iFLY Indoor Skydiving—a belated birthday present. Each of them had two "flights," lasting 55 seconds each. Short but thrilling! It reminded me of something I've long appreciated: experiences are so much more than the moments themselves. There's so much joy in the lead-up, anticipation, and planning. My son and his friend were talking about the activity for the days leading up to it. They enjoyed each step of the process including putting on the jumpsuit, helmet, and glasses, and watching the other flyers take flight before them. And of course, they loved watching each other defy gravity! (I couldn't resist - in the spirit of this post, I booked our family's Wicked tickets over a week ago!) After an experience, we get another dopamine hit by reliving it, whether we're describing the moment to friends and loved ones, sharing photos, or just replaying the memory in our minds. The boys happily chatted about their flights and watched the videos on the car ride home. They even commented on the kind instructor and the cool jumpsuits. This isn’t just feel-good philosophy—science backs it up! The takeaway? Plan something fun with a loved one. Organize a dinner or activity, book an event, or set a date for something to look forward to. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive. In fact, many experts agree that small bursts of joy can have an even bigger impact. And hey—here’s to hoping your next dinner with friends lasts way longer than 55 seconds! 🥂 PS.     Flying with STEM Education! - 60 Scouts and family members of Scouting America, South Florida Council went flying with iFLY Indoor Skydiving Fort Lauderdale on Friday! The Scouts are working on their NOVA STEM awards and other rank requirements. They had to learn about the physics of flying, how the wind tunnel works, and each Scout had to calculate their personal terminal velocity! (I looked at the equation and was thankful the iFly staff was there to help!) Scouts have so many different programs, all designed to keep them engaged in life-long learning and exploration. Fun mixed with learning is the original design by our founder over 114 years ago. "A Game with a Purpose".
