We played an active role in garnering support for this legislation and educating congressional offices on the critical resources needed for veteran patients as they approach the end of their lives. The hospice community advocates for an effective program to enhance care quality so that patients and families can make informed decisions for their hospice care. At least 13 million Americans are living with a serious illness like cancer, heart failure, or dementia. While much progress has been made to improve access to palliative care and other key health care supports for this population, significant gaps remain. This new Scorecard evaluates each state’s readiness and capacity to meet the needs of patients and families facing serious illness and highlights practical recommendations to improve health care quality and cost. This group also does outreach to non-member hospices to share the work and vision of the state association.
