ISU School of Comm Graduate Program

We aim to provide a rigorous and comprehensive graduate education that balances scholarship and practice in the field of communication. Students learn multi-methodological approaches to producing and/or critically analyzing communication in organizations, close relationships, classrooms, mediated channels, and public campaigns. Classroom and extracurricular opportunities help students develop transferable skills in a collaborative environment that empower them to be leaders in their communities, industries, and academia within a diverse environment. Through our program, we aim to achieve the following outcomes: 1. Students gain a greater understanding of the depth and breadth of knowledge of the communication discipline. 2. Students are able to conceptualize and conduct independent communication research. 3. Students understand how to apply communication content to real world contexts. 4. Students are competent in communicating results of their own and others’ research in written and/or oral forms. 5. Students critically examine their own personal beliefs, attitudes, and biases about historically marginalized people, groups, and ideas.
