We're a community based organization that is getting young men of color to and through college.

About us

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) was founded in 2013 with the mission to increase the number of young men of color (YMOC) to attend and graduate from colleges and universities. We envision a world where men of color are overrepresented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and leaders in their communities. With remarkable resilience, authenticity, and passion, we work to combat academic inequities and build a college to community pipeline.

  • IYT's #Maryland Program proudly launched its Welcome Event at Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys! Led by AmeriCorps Member, Kamari Wilkerson our brothers were introduced to the IYT Creed, setting the foundation for a year of growth, learning, and empowerment. We are excited to see the impact this program will have on the boys at BCSB. This event marks our expansion to a second school in Maryland, building on the successful launch of programming at the The SEED School of Maryland in late October. Thank you Maryland Governor's Office on Service & Volunteerism for supporting our mission as we continue to uplift and inspire young men in our community. Stay tuned for updates and stories from the Brotherhood!

As we prepare for the holidays I want to highlight the importance of giving in any way that you can. Improve Your Tomorrow is thankful for being able to partner with our school site Madison Park Academy in Oakland for its after school Harvest Meal event. I had the pleasure of assisting with set up and food service which provided a hot meal for our East Oakland youth who attend both Madison Middle School and Madison Park Academy. We were able to feed approximately 45-60 students and one family. It was a great afternoon and I was happy to serve the children and families of our future.

  • Check out Adam Allen, M.A. Allen, our Program Director for IYT Minnesota! From starting with IYT as a Class One member at Valley High School to graduating from UC Merced and pursuing his Master’s in Organizational Leadership, Adam's journey is inspiring. We are proud of his incredible leadership in launching IYT’s first-ever program in Minnesota this year. His dedication has been instrumental in making this new chapter a success. We’re excited to see Adam thrive and honored to be part of his journey!

Meet Adam Allen, Program Director for Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT), a California-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering young men of color to overcome barriers to higher education. Adam earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at CLU and his capstone project centered on improving mentor retention in IYT programs. These mentors are critical for many students who rely on them to navigate educational hurdles, access resources, and stay on track toward enrolling in higher education. Adam valued the support and flexibility he received throughout his CLU experience, which allowed him to balance his professional responsibilities with academic pursuits. He emphasizes that CLU values like Collaboration and Mindfulness have become guiding principles in his work, enhancing his ability to lead diverse teams and build meaningful connections. • Black and Latino men face significant barriers in the community college system, with many dropping out of the system and leaving without a degree or transferring to a four-year university. These young men are the least likely to graduate, highlighting a critical education gap that must be addressed. Brothers like Ezra Lee show what’s possible with the right support. With guidance from IYT mentors, Ezra overcame one of the toughest college math classes and is now on track to earn his degree. Through mentorship, advocacy, and tailored resources, programs like ours—combined with policies like AB 705—are breaking barriers and making higher education more accessible. Together, we’re helping young men of color achieve their goals and close the gap. Through mentorship and hard work, he graduated with a near 4.0 GPA, excelled in AP classes, and went on to thrive at American River College (ARC). Today, Ezra is living his dream at Grambling State University on a full-ride scholarship, finishing his first semester strong! Thanks to our supporters, we helped Ezra purchase his plane ticket to begin this exciting chapter. Ezra shares: "Thanks to my mentors, Micheala, Gio, and everybody—and I mean everybody—thank you.
