About us
Independence Robotics Inc. is developing a low-cost mobile robotic arm to assist people with limited mobility in picking up household items by themselves. This innovation greatly reduces their need for caretaker assistance, empowering users with more independence and power in their daily lives. Additionally, it offers significant support to the healthcare industry. By automating the task of fetching and handling objects, nurses and other healthcare workers can focus more on providing critical care. This not only benefits our users and their caretakers but also helps the institutions they work for, addressing issues like understaffing and resource constraints in healthcare settings to make sure everyone gets the care they deserve!

One of the main benefits of assistive robotics is to decrease dependence on caregivers. PSWs are the heart of caregiving – supporting those who need it most. But with low wages and high turnover, many PSWs are forced to take second jobs just to make ends meet. 💼 How can we expect them to provide the best care when they aren’t being cared for themselves? Sally Thomas, former powerlifting Paralympian, on the struggles PSW's face in the workplace. Do you or someone you know struggle with this isssue? Building a startup is hard work, and you can't control when inspiration strikes. One of my favourite things about working at Rain Technologies Inc. is the fact that my team is always down to order some food, grab a whiteboard, and push each other to come up with amazing new ideas. Here's the stages of one these nights with Vanessa Galarneau, Sebastian Fallenbüchl, BASc., and Andrew Ingram. Sometimes things get heated, sometimes ideas get thrown out, but at the end of the day it's always worth it to watch our dream product become reality - Every. Single. Time.

We do cool stuff x Lucy Amos Our campus is buzzing with people developing, building, and working on remarkable initiatives worth sharing. The 'We Do Cool Stuff' series has made it possible for us to celebrate the innovators and trailblazers who are making our campus a centre of creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurship. In honor of Black History Month, we continue to celebrate the passion, creativity and entrepreneurial achievements of Black students and alumni. Lucy Amos, a third-year student from the uOttawa | Faculty of Engineering | Faculté de génie, has discovered a love for robotics and personal care devices.
