  • Dr. Robin Boyer, pediatric hospitalist, recently joined Lenise Ligon on Fox10 News to discuss respiratory illness season in children. From November to March, children are more susceptible to respiratory viruses like the flu, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), rhinovirus (common cold), and pneumonia, which can be viral or bacterial. 📹 Watch the video for helpful tips this respiratory illness season! Dr. Boyer shares with parents that they should be concerned if their child shows signs of increased work of breathing, such as using chest muscles to breathe or flaring nostrils, which indicates difficulty breathing. A fever lasting more than five days (above 100.4°F) also warrants medical evaluation, as this could suggest a bacterial infection needing antibiotics. Thomas Hospital is home to Baldwin County's only dedicated pediatric care unit and offers 24/7 care for children.
