Had an awesome time hanging out with the Middle Schoolers on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at my favorite event - The Future City Competition's Regional Finals - for Tampa Region conducted at Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School in St. Petersburg. The 2024-25 theme is "Above the Current - Design a floating city and provide two innovative examples of how your floating city works and keeps its citizens healthy and safe.”
I represented Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering and the Greater Tampa Section of ITE along with Brian Gentry, P.E., PTOE, RSP1 and Sarah C. Phillips . We judged the Special Category Award for Best Transportation Model Design which was sponsored by Great Tampa Section of ITE this Year.

ABOUT FUTURE CITY COMPETITION
Future City is a cross-curricular program that lets students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades do the things engineers do: identify problems, brainstorm ideas, design solutions, test and retest, build and then share the results. The Future City competition has the following five deliverables - Project Plan, Virtual City, City Description, City Model, and City Presentation.
Imagine what it would be like to walk down the main street of a city 100 years in the future. What would you hear, see, smell, and feel? How would the people who live in your future city describe it? What would visitors say about it? How is it different from cities of today? What makes it futuristic and innovative?
