Nike’s ‘Just Do It’ campaign has been around for over 35 years. And for good reason. This short, simple slogan speaks volumes about empowerment and behavior. 💡 This got me thinking about the importance of language and how it relates to our mindset, how we feel about ourselves, and our behavior. We've all been there: someone asks us to take on a new project, meet a deadline, or add that one last task to our overextended and super-busy plate of responsibilities, and we respond with, “I’ll  try." 🏳 "I'll try" implies uncertainty and it leave the door open for excuses that can leave us feeling badly about ourselves. We leave the door open for failure. 🚩 "I am doing….." is a statement of ownership and determination. It shifts the focus from potential failure to a mindset of action, progress, and control. It doesn’t guarantee perfection, but it reflects a commitment to showing up. To this end, we reduce our stress by setting boundaries and reframing with an outcome that is more realistic for us. Some examples demonstrating what is feasible and doable come to mind: 📣 “I am interested in taking on that project, but I have a full plate right now. I will reconnect with you at the end of the week discuss in more detail.” 📣 “Unfortunately, I cannot join that meeting later this afternoon. I can commit to a conversation tomorrow morning. Would that work for you?” 📣 “I would like to be there, but I am waiting on a few things to fall into place that are not in my control. I will reach when I have more clarity.” By choosing stronger, more assertive language, we empower ourselves and take a stance that is helpful not only for ourselves, but for those around us as well. We take responsibility and that builds trust, credibility, and it reduces our stress level. ✅ So, next time you’re asked to take something on, consider the difference: "I’ll try" leaves the door open for hesitation. "I am doing it" builds confidence and clarity. Language shapes your outcomes. Choose wisely. #mentalwellness #reducingstress #settingboundaries #languagematters #justdoit #buildingconfidence #mentalhealth

For those that know me well, you have repeatedly heard me say that I don’t enjoy writing and posting on LinkedIN and social media. Posting for me is HARD. Today is a HARD day for many people. At work and in our personal lives, there are a range of feelings and reactions to the election results. Some want to run and hide and others feel energized and ready to go. I have been reading posts on LinkedIN and found so many great recommendations for leaders to help their teams. Allison Davis Shanna Hocking Lan Phan Jill Katz Russell Raath Doreen Marchetti thank you for sharing content that is helpful. And if you see posts and content that you like, share it with others who may really need to hear it today. In thinking about what to share today, my thought goes back to doing something HARD. We feel good about ourselves and we support our mental well-being when we do hard things that we may not want to do. 💡 Perhaps you have been avoiding someone who holds a different political view than you…..if that is the case for you, reach out. 💡 Maybe you need to apologize to a friend. 💡 Reach out to someone who is hurting. 💡 Maybe there is a deadline at work or an email you don’t want to deal with……reach deep and address it. 💡 What about the corporate 5K you promise yourself you will do with your colleageus and have yet to complete it…..sign up. Find that goal today and take that first step to accomplishing it. As for me, ✅ I posted today. Danielle Farage……I take on your challenge of a vertical video post next. What is one thing that is hard for you that can accomplish today? Share in comments. #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealth #buildingcommunity #doinghardthings #takingonchallenges #mentalhealthmatters #relationshipsmatter #

We are only days away from the hands-down best day in NYC!!! The NYC Marathon is this Sunday, November 3. 🙌 I am proud to say that I have completed 4 NYC marathons. It has been a number of years since my last race and yet the bonds, experience, and lessons learned continue to guide me. Reflecting back, I don’t dwell on the hours upon hours of training, what I remember is the interpersonal connection and how being part of something so big, in an amazingly diverse city, has helped define me as an athlete, person, and a professional in my work in building human connections Insight Onsite I am grateful to my many training partners including Carolyn Slovis Golub Merrill Mladineo Dr. Angela Jackson Yves Coleon Rachel Winokur Adam Sokoloff @ Dr Susan Drossman and @ Steve Parker for putting up with the multiple stops in the park so we could pick everyone up and the entertaining and meaningful conversations we shared. And to Michael Dub and Elaina Dub for figuring out things to do while I trained. Each race day morning at the staging area at Fort Wadsworth, I fondly remember meeting fellow athletes from all over the world and from all different backgrounds. The personal stories that motivated them to participate…..milestone birthdays, honoring a loved one, supporting a cherished organization, proving to themselves that they could do it, and checking off a bucket list item were inspiring. To me, the NYC marathon experience is a masterclass in inclusion, belonging, and authenticity. And to help this year’s participants, please share some of your marathon memories in the comments below. #nycmarathon #belonging #humanconnection #inclusion #authenticity

It was an honor and pleasure to attend the YWCA Northern New Jersey Walk The Talk Gala last night. I enjoyed learning about the mission and boots on the ground work being done to address racial injustice, inequality, domestic violence, and girls and women's empowerment. I met so many interesting, engaging, and curious people......conversation flowed and I feel hopeful and whole today. I am grateful to my friend Dr. Christine W. Thorpe for inviting me and for being an innovator alongside me in making a difference in the mental health of people at work. Please check-out the work of this amazing organization and DM me to learn more about getting involved.

It is always a joy and pleasure when I have the opportunity to collaborate, work, and think with the team Liftery about a better path forward! When writing posts, I like to think in 3s and offer practical suggestions and the option for a framework.....this piece on setting boundaries does exactly that! Three steps and a number of examples pulled from stories shared through my work Insight Onsite I am curious........ What language do you use when setting boundaries? #workingmoms #insightonsite #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #selfcompassion #worklifebalance #worklifeintegration

𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭: 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. As working mothers, we juggle an endless list of responsibilities, and deep down, we understand that setting limits is essential for our well-being. So why do we struggle to actually do it? 🔸 𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞. Many of us are driven and ambitious, so saying “no” can feel like we’re holding ourselves back. 🔸 𝐖𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞. Whether it’s a colleague, boss, partner, or our kids, saying “not right now” feels like we’re letting someone down. 🔸 𝐖𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩. Being capable and reliable is part of our identity, and setting boundaries can feel like we’re failing. But here’s the paradox: without boundaries, we overcommit, and the quality of our work—and our emotional well-being—suffers. So what do you do? You go to the Liftery blog and read Elyse Dub, Ph.D.'s guide to boundary setting, which includes a simple framework and even has scripts for you to use. In honor of #WorldMentalHealthDay, I thought I would post a quick, though not so easy strategy, that has changed my life. This is for those who struggle with time management and arriving on time. I started using this strategy about 8 months ago and to this day, I have only met my goal of being 2 minutes early for each commitment for 3 full days ….that is it! My success, or lack thereof, is not the point……..what matters is the feeling I have when I arrive early and can mentally prepare for a meeting or appointment. Most importantly for me and the countless clients, colleagues and friends who have shared their experiences arriving two minutes early, the consensus is that we feel more connected and better able to engage with others when we have a few moments for mental preparation. So while it may not feel like time management is related to human connection, I truly believe that there is a connection. I keep striving and working because I know this 2-minute rule works. Take a peek and let me know your thoughts and stories of trying this 2-minute rule! And importantly, a huge thank you to Danielle Farage and Bayleh Lewis for helping me getting over my hurtle and fear of posting a video! It's amazing what we can accomplish with supportive friends in our corner. #mentalwellness #humanconnections #mentalwellbeing #insightonsite #timemanagement #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate

My younger daughter had the wonderful opportunity to be a foreign exchange student earlier this summer. She spent part of her time living with a host family. Over the Labor Day weekend, it was our turn to host the student she stayed with in Spain. I was a bit uneasy when she arrived……concerned about how we would communicate and hoping our attempts to make her feel welcome in our home would be well-received. We had a great few weeks with her, including some authentic American household experiences that encapsulate our way of life…….eating dinner in 15-minutes flat before rushing off to the next activity and having breakfast in the car on the way to school. She was incredibly interested and knowledgeable about American culture and motivated to expand upon her impressive understanding and use of the English language. We also lingered a bit more during weekend meals and had good conversations about her life in Spain and the differences she witnessed here. We asked questions of one another with a desire to learn more about what we value. -How does your family spend time together? -What do you find meaningful about that time together? -What does your school/work day look like? -What do you do after school/work? -How do you spend time over the weekend? And the more we asked questions like these, the clearer it was just how similar we are in terms of prioritizing relationships and spending quality time with friends and family. We are more similar than different from one another. She left earlier this week and we are all sad to see her go. I learned things about her that I may not necessarily know about my own friends or colleagues. Things that help build mutual understanding and social connection……I understood what is important to her and what empties and fills her cup. So, I am tasking myself this week with learning more about the people immediately around me. Asking those same questions of my friends and colleagues. Asking questions to build relationships and social connection. Any questions you would add? Who is with me on asking these questions of friends and colleagues? #mentalwellbeing #socialconnections #relationships #multiculturalexperience

Last week the U.S. Surgeon General released a public advisory called 'Parents Under Pressure' (https://lnkd.in/ehFGdV2v). This timing is not surprising given that families are adjusting to the start of the school year. This change is not always easy one. In my work as a psychologist, I consistently received more calls during school transition times…..September at the start of school, prior to fall, winter and spring breaks, and then again at the end of the school year as compared to other points during the year. For parents out there who may be struggling in this moment, please know that you are not alone. Dr. Vivek Murthy compiled data and research to outline the stressors and impacts on parents. Dr. Murthy is calling upon society as a whole, friends, neighbors, workplaces, local governments and community groups to pitch by supporting and addressing the loneliness experienced by many parents not just during these transition times, but in general given the multiple competing demands of life. The report outlines a number of ideas and recommendations deeply rooted in the work we do Insight Onsite by bringing workplace colleagues together to engage, connect, and learn from one another concrete strategies for problem solving situations outside of work to improve attention, productivity, and innovation at work. Dr. Murthy suggests: 🔔 Encouraging "open dialogue" 🔔 Enabling "initiatives to support social connection and community" 🔔 Recognizing data which shows that "social connection can decrease the negative effects of stress" and responding with opportunities for people to engage with one another. DM me to learn more about how Insight Onsite can help your organization address the very real needs of parents at work. #parentsatwork #mentalwellness #stress #parentalstress #mentalwellbeing

I woke up this morning to see this image of Gus Walz on my social media feeds. Curious, I went back to look at the actual footage from that moment as I like to understand the context of a situation before gathering my thoughts. I watched Gus Walz cry, “That’s my dad” and it brought me to tears each and every time I watched. What I saw in that moment was pure, unadulterated joy, love, and pride. Use of the world ‘unadulterated’ inside my head was funny because that the definition of ‘unadulterated’ is ‘pure.’ I like how being ‘adult’ is considered more tainted and unpure. It feels like we have to undo being 'adult.' Gus Walz’ words, “That’s my dad” are beautifully eloquent and direct. He can clearly teach adults a thing or two about raw emotions and the power of love and pride. And this moment happened shortly after the Olympics that oozed with pride. My internal thought was, “Wow……I wish someone would say something like that to or about me.” What I also believe is that it is just as important to say something like that about someone else. Adding a few words, I am thinking about how I can speak to that sentiment in a way that purely celebrates the joy I have either in myself or the pride and joy I have for what someone else. Here’s how I would frame it…….. 👏 That’s (insert name here) and I proud of (insert a specific example)” How would you complete that statement? Here’s my first attempt: That’s Eric Mann, MD and I am proud that he started Lucens as an innovative way to support learning for doctors. #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealth #beingkind #buildingre #supportingothers #buildingconnections
