ISI catalyzes systemic change in civil infrastructure, with the Envision sustainability framework as the vehicle.
About us
ISI advances sustainable civil infrastructure using Envision® — through education, training and third-party project verification. The Envision Sustainability Framework and rating system is deployed by people and projects throughout North America and internationally and is applicable to every type of civil infrastructure: water, transportation, energy, waste, land/environmental, and more. OUR HISTORY: Based in Washington, DC, ISI was established in 2010 by the three largest engineering associations — the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the American Public Works Association (APWA). ISI collaborated with the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to develop Envision.

ISI is very pleased to support the collaboration between the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering / La Société canadienne de génie civil and the Climate Risk Institute / PIEVC on the new AssetAdapt+ initiative. AssetAdapt+ will utilize the PIEVC Protocol for assessing climate vulnerabilities and risk, along with the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework, to equip communities in delivering climate-resilient and sustainable infrastructure. This will enable them to procure and deliver capital infrastructure assets that incorporate climate adaptation measures and simultaneously achieve sustainability objectives. Over the next two years, local government staff will be empowered through capacity-building activities, including: ✅ Webinars to raise sustainability and climate resilience awareness among public asset owners. ✅ Comprehensive training. Diving into the fundamentals of the Envision sustainability framework and PIEVC resilience protocol, with an option to earn professional credentials. ✅ Development of a water/wastewater peer cohort. Collaborating with peers and mentors to develop scopes of work for procuring professional services that advance sustainability and climate resilience for upcoming water and wastewater infrastructure. ✅ Scaling up learning across communities and project types through a procurement workshop. To learn more about the project, please visit https://lnkd.in/epjSB2jB or contact us assetadapt@csce.ca. This project is made possible with funding provided by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund (FCM’s GMF) under the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation (LLCA) capacity building program, which is funded by the government of Canada. This week ISI marks Invasive Species Awareness Week. #InvSpWk. Invasive species include nonindigenous or non-native flora, fauna, insects, and aquatic life that adversely affect the habitats or bioregions they invade. They may dominate the new region — forcing out existing species by outcompeting native species for nutrients, light, physical space, water, or food. Two primary counter-measures are: protecting existing healthy habitats from disturbance, and avoiding the introduction of invasive species. In the Envision framework, the credit of reference is NW3.4 Control Invasive Species. It is related to NW1.1 Preserve Sites of High Ecological Value and NW3.1 Enhance Functional Habitats.

Shout out to Guatemala Green Building Council (GGBC)! Earlier this month, GGBC, our partner in Guatemala, hosted back-to-back Envision events! First was a Green Power Breakfast for attendees to learn more about sustainable and resilient infrastructure and the Envision framework. The following day offered an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) training workshop, led by Cristina Contreras Casado, for participants to prepare for the ENV SP credentialing exam. Both events were fully booked, with the Green Power Breakfast attracting more than 100 local professionals and the workshop preparing dozens of new ENV SPs! We're proud to be partnered with GGBC to promote more sustainable development in Guatemala and the Latin America region! #sustainableinfrastructure #Envision #ENVSP #sustainabledevelopment #sustainablecommunities #sustainabilityleadership

Congratulations to Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources and Freese and Nichols on successfully completing the post-construction review stage for the Eastern Regional Infrastructure Project, which expanded water, sewer, and trail infrastructure to support the county’s ongoing and anticipated growth. This is the final step in the Envision verification process and it confirmed the Envision Silver Award the project earned last October!
