Dr. Daniel Salmon, IVS Director, and Janesse Brewer, IVS Director of Stakeholder and Community Engagement, were pleased to attend the Mercury Project Solutions Summit in Nairobi, Kenya on October 3, 2024. The Summit welcomed world leaders from the public, private, and philanthropic communities to identify the most promising opportunities to increase vaccine demand and support science-based health decision-making. IVS looks forward to the opportunity to continue its efforts to support vaccine decision-making with partners in Kenya and around the world. Salmon Daniel | Janesse Brewer

IVS worked with NACCHO to convene a PAVE (Partnering for Vaccine Equity) Summit in Washington, D.C. It brought together public health leaders from local health departments to learn about innovations in this space. We are so impressed with the good work happening at the local level everywhere. The session was carefully designed and participants had this to share about their time together:

In a recently published article, Lessons Learned from COVID-19, H1N1, and Routine Vaccine Pharmacovigilance in the United States: A Path to a More Robust Vaccine Safety Program (https://lnkd.in/eWzU9Uhx), IVS Director, Dr. Daniel Salmon, and his co-authors recommend that (1) The Department of Health and Human services should adopt a consistent cross-agency system for assessing and reporting on vaccine safety; (2) Congress should increase funding for vaccine safety; (3) Agencies should assess vaccine benefit in tandem with research on pharmacovigilance to inform decision-making; and (4) the U.S. and other nations should invest in global pharmacovigilance.

IVS, in partnership with Health Quality Innovators, just finished up 12 in-person trainings using the Be REAL (Relate, Explore, Assist, and Leave the door open) Framework. Instead of focusing on shots in arms (transactional), the sessions focused on the relationship with the community member. This is all with the recognition that a trusted relationship is essential when thinking about a lifetime of health decisions a person will make. The trainings can be customized for different professionals in the public health ecosystem from clinicians, community health workers, pharmacists, and others. The sessions are fast paced, informative, and interactive. Here is a photo of a role play that had people learning about how to share vaccine resources in a way that was open, helpful, and non-judgmental. Who says you can't learn and have some fun along the way?
